Abstract
Indonesian society especially among students, many of whom do not know what social
media is. Because many of them think that not playing on social media is including
ancient or outdated people. Therefore, in this developing era, many students prefer to
play on social media compared to other things. This research was conducted to find out
whether there was a student who was affected by his behavior or differences in behavior
due to playing on social media. This research was conducted to find out whether there
was a student who was affected by his behavior or differences in behavior due to
playing on social media. The research sample size was 92 students using quantitative
research methods. The method in the research that I will use is the survey method by
setting a simple regression analysis. namely by looking at how much influence the
dependent variable has on the independent variable. The variables studied consisted of
two variables, namely social media (X) and student behavior (Y). Surveys are the basis
of quantitative research, where survey methods are commonly used in quantitative
research types. The survey research that I will use asks several students about their
opinions, regarding the influence of social media on the characteristics, and behaviors
that have occurred in these individuals. This research was conducted using quantitative
research, by taking a survey approach, by giving a questionnaire through the media
google form and containing a statement regarding the research topic of the object of
research, namely students of SMA Negeri Bojong 1 Pekalongan. The goal is to see how
big the impact of the use of social media is on the behavior that students do. From the
ANOVA table, it is known that sig. 4.066 and > 0.05, it means that HO is accepted. So
research on the influence of social media does not exist on student behavior. In
addition, F count 2.26215716 < 4.066180551 So it is more related to the personality
of each individual itself is not affected by individual behavior on social media. From
the results of research that has been done that students using social media show a good
category, namely students can not influence their behavior towards social media. In the
confirmation stage, from the results of the study, the students preferred learning in the
sense that they would develop their potential, although there were some who preferred
social media. However, the results also show that social media does not fully influence
student behavior. Apart from that, students also still need social media. Because it is
not only for purposes, but can also be used for learning, both academic and non-
academic.
Keywords: Social Media, Behavior, Students
PRELIMINARY
Social media is a place where many people can interact, and socialize in broad scope,
communication tools in cyberspace that makes it easier for users to communicate with anyone
without any distance restrictions, now social media are widely accessed by the public in the
form of YouTube, Instagram, Tik Tok, and many more media are used. Indonesian society
especially among students, many of them knows very well what social media is. Because many
of them think that not playing on social media is including ancient or outdated people.
Therefore, in this developing era, many students prefer to play on social media compared to
other things. This research was conducted to find out whether there was a student who was
affected by his behavior or differences in behavior due to playing on social media.
According to Cahyono, Anang Suheng (2016), social media is an online media that
makes it easy for users to join, share, and create content such as blogs, social networks, wikis,
forums, and other virtual worlds. Blogs, social networks and wikis are the most common forms
of social media used by people all over the world. Another opinion, Aditya, R (2015) states
that social media is a place where many people, both known and unknown, connect with their
friends in cyberspace and in the real world.
Social media can be used for various purposes, such as media used to disseminate
information, widely used interaction media, and business buying and selling media. Because
many social media applications can be found that are not only useful for one use. Can be taken
for example online shopping applications in which there is entertainment in the form of videos
or games. Haryanto (2015) stated in one of his scientific works that the use of social media as
a medium for disseminating information is an effective way of social interaction. Information
is quickly discovered and interaction is limited to groups and individuals.
Behavior is the result of human interaction with all kinds of experiences and the
environment, which is manifested in the form of understanding attitudes and behavior. In
essence, behavior is an activity that actually occurs or can be seen in attitudes or behavior,
either directly or indirectly. However, this means that the form of behavior can only be seen
from attitudes and behavior. Behavior is a person's mental reaction to his environment in the
form of real behavior, or unrealistic behavior.
A student is an individual who is studying at an educational institution or someone who
is gaining knowledge from a teacher or tutor. In this era, many of the students we get, both
teenagers and even children, can be good at playing on social media. So in this case I am
interested in research, namely asking terms of the influence of social media on the behavior of
a student.
RESEARCH METHODS
The type of research that I apply to this research report is a quantitative research type.
The method in the research that I will use is the survey method by setting a simple regression
analysis. namely by looking at how much influence the dependent variable has on the
independent variable. The variables studied consisted of two variables, namely social media
(X) and student behavior (Y). This method is used to express whether there is an influence
between social media variables (X) and student behavior (Y). The research survey developed
is as a form of a positivist approach to the social sciences. As Robert Groves, a leading surveyor
has said, “surveys produce information that is statistically natural in nature”. Surveys are the
basis of quantitative research, where survey methods are commonly used in quantitative
research types. The survey research that I will use asks several students about their opinions,
regarding the influence of social media on the characteristics, behaviors that have occurred in
these individuals.
The sample that I will use in this research is 92 students of SMA Bojong 1 Pekalongan
with a total population of 943 people with 279 male students and 664 female students. Samples
were taken using a survey method with data collection using a google form, data was taken for
2 weeks from 14-27 June 2022.
This research was conducted using quantitative research, by taking a survey approach,
by giving a questionnaire through the media google form and containing a statement regarding
the research topic of the object of research, namely students of SMA Negeri Bojong 1
Pekalongan. The goal is to see how big the impact of the use of social media on the behavior
that students do.
The following are the results of the researcher's test, which are known to the
questionnaire that has been given by the respondent to the results of this research:
a. This Simple Regression Test is used to determine whether there is an influence from
social media on a student's behavior, namely, by seeing how much influence the
dependent variable has on the independent variable. Yuliara (2016) states that the
regression test is a study of the relationship between one variable, namely the variable
that is explained by one or more variables, namely the variable that explains. If there is
only one independent variable, then the regression analysis is called simple regression.
If the independent variable is more than one, then the regression analysis is known as
multiple linear regression. It is said to be multiple because there are several independent
variables that affect the dependent variable.
HO : There is no influence of social media on student behavior
HI : The influence of social media on student behavior
If the value of |ft-fs| is < table Kolmogorov Smirnov, then Ho is accepted; Hi rejected.
If the value of |ft-fs| the > Kolmogorov Smirnov table, then Ho is rejected; Hi accepted.
The test results are used to find out how much influence the dependent variable has on
the independent variable.
Hypothesis
HO : There is no influence of social media on student behavior
HI : The influence of social media on student behaviour
Final result take:
If the value of f count < f table or sig. >0.05 then HO is accepted
If the value of f count > f table or sig. <0.05 then HO is rejected

From the ANOVA table, it is known that sig. 4.066 and > 0.05, it means that HO is
accepted. So research on the influence of social media does not exist on student behavior. In
addition, F count 2.26215716 < 4.066180551 So it is more related to the personality of each
individual itself is not affected by individual behavior on social media.
b. Characteristics of students as social media users
From the results of research that has been done that students using social media show
a good category, namely students can not influence their behavior towards social media.
In the confirmation stage, from the results of the study, the students preferred learning
in the sense that they would develop their potential, although there were some who preferred
social media. However, the results also show that social media does not fully influence student
behavior. Apart from that, students also still need social media. Because it is not only for
purposes, but can also be used for learning, both academic and non-academic.
Discussion
Based on the results of the analysis using a simple regression test, it can be seen that
the F value is 2.26215716 and the value (sig = 4.066 and > 0.05). With df = 8-1 = 7, a t-table
of 0.514 is obtained, from the above results it can be seen that F count 2.26215716 <
4.066180551 that social media does not affect in student behavior
CONCLUSION
The conclusion from the research that has been done is that there is no sufficient
influence on student behavior on social media. The magnitude of the effect is 1.00% and is
positive. This means that the more the independent variables increase, the better students will
be in realizing the excessive use of social media. From the questionnaire data, it can be seen
on the characteristics of students, namely social media makes students lazy to study as much
as (48.9%) and also makes students forget time (46.7%), good influence from social media
with the number of agree (56.5%) , social media also has a bad effect with a total of 39, social
media also helps as student learning materials with a total of 37, students prefer to learn than
play social media (52.2%).
