Design A Co-working Space

Aim
• Create a workspace which Improves productivity, works efficiency and reduces the stress of occupants with the use of natural material
and elements

Objective
• To study the natural material and elements which impact on human behaviors in working spaces
• To investigate the benefits of incorporating biophilic design in Co-working Spaces

Methodology
• Literature review
• Material case study

Scope
• The study is conducted to improve the productivity of people in office space by
• Introducing biophilic design strategies. The aspects considered are the indoor environment quality, daylight, thermal comfort and the
effect of natural materials on occupants

Limitation
• The study is limited to the factors which affect the occupant’s productivity in an office environment through biophilic design strategies to
help improve the efficiency of the workers
• The study criteria have been limited to the only direct and indirect experience of natural materials and elements in biophilic design

Why materials are important? Natural Material

• The materials and their application in interior design have

seen tremendous development and revolution.
• Materiality talks about the significance of the apt application
of different materials on conceptual grounds and how they
bring the true character of design to users.

What is natural material?
• These materials can be found in nature and usually do not
need too much processing to be used in the interior.
• Decorating and using natural materials in interior design is
becoming an increasingly important trend.
Stone Wicker Jute
• The understanding is that the zero-waste lifestyle and nature Artificial Material
conservation must be a priority, even in design.
• Natural materials include jute, rattan, wicker, stone, wood,
thread, cork, bamboo, leather, and others.
What is Artificial material?
• Artificial materials are processed and can be made up of a Brick Concrete Glass
mixture of raw and synthetic ingredients which can make
them resemble a natural materials.
• Artificial materials include tiles, brick, concrete, metals, glass,
plastic, rubber, plasterboard, plywood, paper and paint.

What is biophilic design? Key Elements of using nature in space

• Biophilic design is a technique that respectfully harnesses the restorative, energizing properties • Flora and fauna – enhancing spaces with

• Increase productivity • Natural effects – embracing natural patterns,
• Encourages engagement with others and nurtures positive relationships textures, colors and materials, evoking nature
• Improve memory and concentration to bring the outdoors in
• Reduce anxiety and depression • Light – integrating natural light to deliver more
• Lessen stress levels vibrant and luminous interiors in tune with day
• Lower heart rate and blood pressure and night cycles;
• Enhance sleep patterns • Air – improving ventilation for a healthier home
• Calm the mind and boost contentment with well-designed airflow;
• Space – creating spaces that offer both a sense
There are three categories in how biophilic design can be incorporated into the built of perspective of outside and a cocooning
environment: refuge inside.
1. Nature in the space patterns 2. Nature analogues patterns
• Visual Connection with Nature • Biomorphic Forms and Patterns
• Non-Visual Connection with Nature • Material Connection with Nature
• Non-Rhythmic Sensory Stimuli • Complexity and Order
• Thermal and Airflow Variability 3. Nature of the space
• Presence of Water • Prospect
• Dynamic and Diffused Light • Refuge
• Connection with Natural Systems • Mystery
• Risk

What Is a Coworking Space? Requirements:

• The definition of coworking is when people assemble in a neutral space to work independently on • Reception & waiting Area
different projects, or in groups on the same projects. It’s different than a typical office workspace • Hot desk
because the people in a coworking environment generally aren’t working for the same company. • Dedicated desk
History • Private cabin
• 1995 – the first “coworking” space was actually founded by hackers in Berlin. The idea was to share • Open offices
thoughts, space and information to complete tasks to those who joined the membership. Presently, • Informal seating / lounge
they have added seminars, classes and a variety of social events, helping with the trend to open up • Phone booth
more community spaces. • Small meeting area/ discussion booth
Advantages of co-working space • Larger meeting area
• Motivation • Pantry
• Community • Server room
• Flexibility • Rest room
• Getting Outside of the Home • Printer room
• Networking • Open spaces

Services:
• WIFI connection – printers
• Whiteboard – Paper – Furniture
• Recreations room
• Library
• Café
• Storage capacity

Conclusion
• Concluding the data it has been found that design which is connected to nature and natural materials are support cognitive function,
physical health, and psychological well-being.

• Use of Biophilic design in offices to encourage the connection between humans and nature and promote staff wellness and productivity.
