DIFFERENTIAL LEVELLING
I. OBJECTIVES:
- Determine the elevation of a Temporary Benchmark (TBM).
- Calculate the Height of the instrument and Elevation at a Turning
Point.
- Identify when to take a Backsight or Foresight measurement.
- Choose when the measuring rod should be moved versus when the
instrument should be moved.
- Understand the whole concept of differential leveling.

IV. PROCEDURE:
- Take a backsight measurement (BS)
- Move the rod
- Take a foresight measurement (FS)
- Move the instrument
- Repeat the process until you reach your desired point

DETERMINING ERROR:
ERROR = TRIAL – TRIAL
ERROR = 21.837 – 21.836
ERROR = 0.001 mm
VI. SUMMARY & CONCLUSION:
At exactly 9:00am Engr. Labaso gave the assumed elevation 21.837, after
getting the assumed elevation we then started our series of readings and
turning points. After we had our first trial, we then calculated the height of
the instrument and its elevation. Then we take our arithmetic check and
after it we then proceed to our second trial. We were cautious in our actions
to achieve lesser than 10mm error, which will lead to repeat the survey.
