토끼와 거북이
The hare and the tortoise

어느 날 한 토끼가 거북이를 너무 느리다고 놀리고 있었어요.

One day a hare was making fun of a tortoise for being so slow.

“내가 느린 것 같지?” 거북이가 말했어요.

"Do you think I am slow?" said the tortoise,

“Let's run a race, and I bet that I will win."

“오, 정말로?” 토끼가 대답했어요. “한 번 해보자.”

“Oh, really?" answered the hare. "Let's try and see."

곧 토끼와 거북이는 그들의 경기에 여우가 심판이 되는 것을 동의했어요.

Soon the hare and the tortoise agreed that the fox would be the judge for their
race.

경기 날에 토끼와 거북이는 출발선에서 여우를 만났어요.
On race day both the hare and the tortoise met the fox at the starting line.

Soon the hare was far ahead of the slow tortoise.

The hare thought she could stop and take a rest.

그녀는 쉴만한 좀 좋은 편안한 풀을 찾아서 금방 깊은 잠에 빠졌어요.

She found some nice comfortable grass to rest in and was soon in a deep sleep.

그러는 사이에 거북이는 계속 가고 또 가고 있었어요.

Meanwhile the tortoise kept going and going.

그는 느렸지만 절대 멈추지 않았어요.

He was slow, but he never stopped.

never 결코, 절대 ~않다.

달콤한 잠을 푹 자고 난 후 토끼는 일어났어요.
After a nice long sleep the hare woke up.

after ~한 후 nice 멋진, 좋은, 즐거운 long 긴 woke up 일어났다, 깨어났다

하지만 문제가 생겼어요.

But there was a problem!

그녀는 너무 오랫동안 잤어요.

She slept for too long.

그녀는 벌떡 일어나 가능한 빨리 달렸지만 너무 늦었어요.

She jumped up and ran as fast as she could, but it was too late.

거북이는 벌써 결승선을 넘었거든요.

The tortoise had already crossed the finish line.

Slow and steady wins the race.

steady 한결같은, 꾸준한 win 이기다, 승리하다
