Connection

1.  Split students into partnerships.

2.  Hand a small object to each partnership.

3.  Ask them to study it closely.  Have them observe it closely,


using all senses--zooming in on the smalles of details.

3.  Walk around and listen to the students conversations.  After 5


minutes, point out some of the interesting comments and
conversations you heard.

4.  Say:  As writers, this type of attention to detail is at the hear of


living a writerly life.  today, I want to teach you that when writers
