I. OBJECTIVES At the end of the lesson, learners are expected to:

a. Approximate the measures of quantities particularly time and rate.

b. Perform the conversion of measurement of time and rate from one
unit to another.
c. Appreciate the concept of conversion of measurement of time and
rate and its application in real-life situations.

A. Content Standards The learner demonstrates understanding of the key concepts of

measurement.

B.Performance Standards The learner is able to formulate real-life problems involving measurements
and solve these using a variety of strategies.

C. Most Essential Learning The learner approximates the measures of quantities particularly length,
Competencies weight/mass, volume, time, angle and temperature and rate. M7ME-IIa-3

Preliminaries

A. Prayer
Before we start our proper lesson, let’s have a (Assigned student prayer)
prayer first. Dear Lord, thank you for this wonderful day………
(student’s prayer)

B. Greetings
Good morning, class! Good morning, Ma’am!

C. Checking of Attendance
Class secretary, May I know who are the (Class secretary)
absentees for today? How many are they? Ma’am, I am gladly to say that no one is an absent for
today.

Okay, I am happy to hear that no one is an

absent for today.

D. Classroom Management
Before we start, please align your chairs, and
pick up the pieces of paper under your chair.

During our class session, stay quiet and

listen carefully. I want you to put all your
things in your bag that is not related to our
subject. Are we clear with that?
Yes Ma’am.

A. Introduction

RECALL

What did we discuss yesterday? Angles and types of angles

Very good. What are the types of angles? Acute angle, right angle, and obtuse angle

Exactly. What is acute angle? Acute angles measures less than 900.

Right angles measures 900.

How about right angle?
Obtuse angle measures more than 900.
That’s correct. What is obtuse angle?

Very Good class. I hope we are clear with angles and

types of angles.

Before we proceed to another topic let us have this

activity called two truths and one lie.
You should guess which statement is the lie.

Let’s start!
Everything you do is not bounded with time.
Time is gold.
In one year, there are 365 days.

Which statement is a lie?

Everything you do is not bounded with time.
Very good.

Rate is a ratio of two different quantities.

Rate is a comparison of measurements that have same
units.
Rate is a quantity or amount of something.

Which statement is a lie? Rate is a comparison of measurements that have same

units.

Exactly.

Class, all those statements are related to our topic for

today and later on you will know why those statements
are lie.

What do you think is our topic for today?

Time and Rate
Very Good. We will be talking about time and rate.

B. Development

Teacher’s Activity Student’s Activity

Let’s talk about first the time.

What is time? Students answer may vary

Very Good.

“Mr./Ms.______, may you please read what is Time is a period during which an action or event
presented on the slide.” occurs. Time is very important and the fundamental
quantities of physical world. As the saying goes “Time
is gold”. Everything you do is bounded with time.

Thankyou Mr./Ms. ________.

Time is also introduced with clocks. We can tell or

identify the time using clocks.
Yes Ma’am
Do you understand class?

Okay. Let us now proceed to the conversion of time.

To convert one unit of another unit of time, we will be

using conversion factor.
Here are some conversion factors that we are going to
use.

60 seconds (s) 1 minute

60 minutes (min) 1 hour
24 hours (hr) 1 day
12 months (mo) 1 year
365 days 1 year
366 days 1 leap year
10 years (yr) 1 decade
100 years 1 century

Do you remember on how to convert English to

English system? Yes Ma’am

The time conversion is the same as the English-to-

English system.

Let’s have an example,

Convert 120 minutes to hours.

60 minutes = 1 day
What conversion factor are we going to use?

Very good. So, it will become

1 day 120
120 minutes x 60 minutes = 60
2
120 ÷ 60?

Very Good. So, our final answer is 120 minutes is

equal to 2 hours.
Another example,
How many minutes within 240 seconds? 60 second = 1 minute

What is our conversion factor?

Okay, very good.

So, it will become

1 minute 240 4
240 seconds x 60 seconds = 60

240 ÷ 60?

Exactly. So, our answer is 240 seconds = 4 minutes. Yes Ma’am

Do you understand class? None

Any questions so far?

Alright, for the last measurement, let’s talk about the

rate.
Rate is a ratio of two different quantities. Among these
“Mr./Ms.______, may you please read what is ratios are speed, which is the ratio between distance
presented on the slide.” and time.

Thankyou Mr./Ms.______.

In addition, rate is a quantity or amount of something.

Rate is a comparison of measurements that have
different units.

For example,
What is the speed of the car if it travels 100 kilometer
in 2 hours?

In this case, the ratio between the distance and the time
is the speed. We are looking for the speed of the car
per hour.

So, our solution should be,

100 50
=
2

What is 100 divided by 2?

Yes Ma’am
Very Good. Therefore, the speed is 50 km per hour.

Do you understand?
Another example,
Daniel finished the 6 miles race in 51 minutes. What is
the rate of minutes per mile? 51 minutes divide to 6 miles

What are we going to do?

8.5
Okay, exactly.

51 ÷ 6

Very Good. So, our answer is,

1 mile = 8.5 minutes Yes Ma’am

OKAY CLASS, DO YOU UNDERSTAND WHAT IS Yes

TIME AND RATE?
None
Are you sure?

Any questions and clarifications?

C. Engagement

Teacher’s Activity Student’s Activity

Solve the following problems.

1. The Panganiban family lived in the province for 36 1 year 36

months. How many years did they stay in the 36 months x 12months = 12 = 3
province?

2. Roshanter finished the 5 miles race in 200 minutes. 200 ÷ 5 = 40

What is the rate of minutes per mile? Therefore, 40 minutes per mile

D. Assimilation
