SEMI-DETAILED LESSON PLAN IN MATHEMATICS IV

I. Objective:

a. tell time accurately in minutes and seconds;

b. understands the process of converting time from minutes to seconds and vice versa;
and

c. convert time from minutes to seconds and vice versa accurately.

II. Subject Matter:

Topic: Time Conversion: Minutes to Seconds and Vice Versa

References: Mathematics 4, Teacher`s guide

Materials: Laptop, PowerPoint Presentation

III. Procedure:

Teacher`s Activity Student`s Activity

A. Introductory Activities

1. Prayer

Everybody, please stand up for our prayer. Jane, please lead (Everyone is standing for prayer)
the prayer.

2. Greetings

Good morning children!

Good morning, Teacher Lucille!
3. Attendance

Class, who are absent today?

None teacher.
4. Setting rules before class

Class, before we start, what are we going to do if our class

discussion is going to start? Janna: Treat others with respect at all
times. Listen to the teacher when s/he
speaks.

Yes, very good. What else? Mark: Ask for help when you need it.
Be prepared every day with required
items.

Shane: Respect other people's

property. Listen and follow directions.
And raise your hand before speaking or
leaving your seat.

5. Review

Solving Equations by Finding the Missing Number

1. 5+__=12 2. 4×__=32 3. 4×__=32 (The students are now solving and will
show it to the whole class).
B. Activity (establishing purpose of the lesson)

Class, before we start, I have prepared games here for you. Are
you ready to play?
Yes, we are ready!
The teacher will write various time-related activities or
scenarios on slips of paper (e.g., "brushing teeth for 2 minutes,"
"waiting for the bus for 5 minutes," "microwaving popcorn for
90 seconds"). Divide the class into two teams. One student
from each team takes turns drawing a slip of paper and silently
acting out the activity without speaking. The rest of the team
must guess the time duration of the activity in both minutes
and seconds. Once the team correctly guesses, they earn a (The students are playing the game)
point. Rotate turns between teams until all slips of paper have
been used. The team with the most points at the end wins.

C. Analysis

Did you have fun from our activity?

Very good! Base from the words we used from our activity, Yes, we are teacher!
what do you think is our lesson for today?
Jake: It`s all about time, teacher!
Yes, very good! Our lesson for today is all about Time
conversion, from minutes to seconds and vice versa.

D. Abstraction

Teacher will explain the relationship between minutes and

seconds: 1 minute = 60 seconds. Converting time measure
involving seconds, minutes, hours and day.

Mark can you please read written on the board?

Mark: When a second hand moves in 1
complete revolution it is equal to 60
seconds. 60 seconds is equal to one
minute. 60 minutes is equal to one
Yes, good job! 1 minute is equal to 60 seconds, while 60 hour. 24 hours is equal to one day.
minutes is equal to 1 hour and 24 hours is equal to 1 day.

For example: When I say, you convert 180 seconds into

minutes, what minutes are in 180 seconds? Can anyone
answer? Teacher! It is 3 minutes.

Wow! Very good! It is 3 minutes. 60 seconds x 3 equals 180

seconds. Or we can solve by 180 divide 60 equals 3.

To convert seconds to minutes, divide the number of seconds

by 60. Example:120 seconds= 2 minutes, 180 seconds= 3
minutes, 300 seconds= 5, minutes, 600 seconds= 10 minutes.
Jane, can you read the next sentence?
Jane: To convert minutes to seconds,
multiply the minutes by 60. Example: 3
minutes= 190 seconds5 minutes= 300
seconds9 minutes= 540 seconds15
minutes= 900 seconds

Thank you, when converting minutes to seconds, we are going

to multiply the minutes by 60.
Everyone, please read the abbreviations.

Abbreviations used for minutes is (min)

and seconds is (sec).
Yes, we can abbreviate the minutes in min. and seconds in sec.
so that we can right shortly.

And lastly, to convert minute to hours, divide the number of

minutes by 60. Example:300 minutes = 5 hours, 540minutes = 9
hours, 660 minutes = 11 hours, 1200 minutes = 20 hours.

E. Application

Class, let’s see if you understand out lesson for today. Are you
ready for our next activity? Yes, we are ready!
Direction: Divide the class into three groups. Convert the
following:

Group 1: 1) 9 minutes= ___ seconds 2) 240 seconds= ___

minutes 3) 7 days= ___ hours 4) 96 hours=___days 5) 2 days=
___ hours

Group II: 1) 840 seconds= ___ minutes

2) 960 minutes=___hours 3) 19 minutes=___ seconds
(The students are starting answer each
4) 5 hours=___ minutes 5) 1,260 minutes= ___ seconds
question assigned)
Group III: 1) How many seconds in 18 minutes?

2) How many minutes in 720 seconds?

3) How many days in 72 hours?

4) How many hours in 5 days?

5) How many hours in 12 days?

F. Generalization

Ask the students: How do you convert the following:

1. Seconds to minutes?
Teacher, by dividing 60 seconds
Very good! How about Minutes to seconds?
Shane: By multiplying 60 seconds
Good job! How do you convert Minutes to hours?
Joy: By dividing 60 minutes
Amazing! And lastly, Hour to minutes?
Chris: By multiplying 60 minutes
Very good everyone! What will you do to make it easier?
By using the formula of each, teacher!
Good job! Is the lesson clear to you?
Yes, teacher!

IV. Evaluation
