it by using sentences. Each correct sentence is equivalent to one
point. You can write down describing sentences as many as you can
within five minutes. The group will be graded according to the
following rubrics:

Class let’s give them a “Congratulations clap” for the nice team
work they showed.

123( clap)! 123( feet stamp)! Congratulations!

123( clap)! 123( feet stamp)! Congratulations!

3. Abstraction

From the activity we did, what did you observe?

Answers may vary.

Alright! Your answers are nice! You are a very good observer.
Our lesson for today is all about “Sentence Pattern”

Let’s identify the different basic sentence pattern with the examples
that I will show you.

1. Leslie played cheerfully.

What have you observe to the pattern of the sentence?

Yes Marecel?
Students raising their hand.

Marecel: I observed that the sentence used the subject and

followed by the intransitive verb.

Very Good! Yes it has a subject and intransitive verb. The first
sentence is patterned as S- IV [subject, intransitive verb] sentence.

When we say subject what does it mean?

Yes Marvin?
Students raising their hand.

That’s correct! The subject is doer in the sentence, it can a person, Marvin: Subject is the noun, the doer in the sentence.
animals, place or thing.

In the given sentence what is the subject?

Yes Leanne?

Students raising their hand.

Very good! Leanne: Ma’am the subject in the sentence is Leslie.
What is intransitive verb?

Students raising their hand.

Yes Menya?

Menya: Ma’am intransitive verb is a verb that accepts one or

Excellent answer! more objects.

Alright. Let us see the pattern of the second example.

2. Sun gives sunlight.

In second sentence what have you noticed in its structure?

Students raising their hand.

Yes Marecel?

Marecel: Ma’am I noticed that the subject, transitive verb and

compliment are chronically arranged in the sentence.

Very Good answer! The pattern of the second sentence is arranged

as S-TV-DO- subject, transitive verb, and compliment.

Now let’s move on the next example.

3. Polane is pretty.
Class can you say to the pattern of the third sentence?

Yes Elma?
Students raising their hand.

Elma: Ma’am the pattern of the sentence is subject-linking

Excellent! You’ve got the exact pattern. The third pattern of the verb-compliment.
sentence is subject-linking verb-compliment.

Alright. Let’s go to the next sentence.

4. Chris gave Lea a flower.

What do you think is the pattern of the sentence?

Yes Leanne? Students raising their hand.

Leanne: Ma’am I can see the subject-transitive verb- indirect

object- direct object pattern in the sentence.
Very good! The pattern of it is subject-transitive verb- indirect
object- direct object. And in this pattern, the indirect object noun or
pronoun answers the question to whom or whom something is done.

Alright. Let’s proceed to the next example.

5. Vea buy gift for Jhon.

Class what do you think is the pattern of this sentence?
Students raising their hand.
Yes Menya?

Menya: Ma’am the sentence is structured by using subject-

transitive verb-direct object-object of the preposition pattern.
Nice observation! The pattern used in sentence is subject- transitive
verb-direct object-object of the preposition pattern. The object of the
preposition noun or pronoun answers to whom or for whom
something is done.

And for the last sentence pattern, observed the structure of the last
example I will show to you.

6. The car hit the dog accidentally.

Anyone from the class can share your observation to the pattern used
in this sentence?

Marvin what do you think?

Students raising their hand.

Marvin: Ma’am the sentence has a subject-transitive verb-

That’s right! The last pattern of the sentence for today is the subject- direct object- objective complement.
transitive verb- direct object- objective complement.

All your observations are correct! It seems that everyone have

learned from the discussion today.

4. Application

CONSTRUCTION” to test if you really understand the patterns of
sentences that we have discussed. Here you’ll be working by group.
The class will be divided into six and each group will be assigned to
finish the specific task. We will be using draw lots in assigning tasks
to each group. You will be graded according to the rubrics that
follows:
