ENGAGE:

Good morning! In our previous lesson, you learned about

locating information using different information sources such
textbooks, newspapers in print or digital, magazines and other online
sources such as YouTube and Facebook.

Today, we will be reading a story which I got from the internet,

but before we do that, let me ask you something.

Have you ever played the game Langit-Lupa? In this game there is the
catcher or “taya” who chases and the players who need to stay
elevated from the ground. Of course, we cannot play Langit-Lupa
without the catcher and the players right?

Another, have you eaten Apan-apan? You cannot cook this dish
without its ingredients such as string beans, soy sauce, shrimp paste,
etc., right?

The same also in a paragraph. Its needs to have a GENERAL

STATEMENT or MAIN IDEA and SPECIFIC STATEMENTS or SUPPORTING
DETAILS.

EXPLORE

Example, read the text. Study or examine the paragraph, especially

the underlined sentence then answer the following questions.

(1) Tyzer John V. Superioridad loves sports. (2) When he was

represent his school for the Congressional District Meet where he won.

sentence. The underlined sentence is our GENERAL STATEMENT or
LOCALIZATION

MAIN IDEA because it tells us what the paragraph is all about.

2. How do we know that Tyzer loves sports? What sentences can

support our general statement?

Good job! Sentences 7-8 explains why Tyzer loves sports. These
sentences are what we call SPECIFIC STATEMENTS or SUPPORTING
DETAILS because they explain specifically in details the main idea
or general statement.
HOTS
EXPLAIN

General ideas usually express the main point or main idea of a

piece of writing. They present the topic of a paragraph, essay, or book
and make a statement about it, usually a claim or truth that needs to
be proven.

Specific ideas and sentences usually clarify, explain, and illustrate

general ideas and statements by referring to particular individuals,
ideas, or things. They also tend to express distinct characteristics that
define those individuals, ideas, and things. They also provide evidence
to further define the general or main idea and prove that it is valid. This
evidence can take many forms: examples, anecdotes, logical reasons,
facts, statistics, and expert testimony.

Text No.1

Health experts say the evidence is clear that masks can

help prevent the spread of COVID-19 and that the more people
wearing masks, the better. An experiment using high-speed video
found that hundreds of droplets ranging from 20 to 500
micrometers were generated when saying a simple phrase, but
that nearly all these droplets were blocked when the mouth was
covered by a damp washcloth. Another study of people who
had influenza, or the common cold found that wearing a surgical
mask significantly reduced the amount of these respiratory viruses
emitted in droplets and aerosols. Another study looked at
coronavirus deaths across 198 countries and found that those
with cultural norms or government policies favoring mask-wearing
had lower death rates.
