    In lieu of imprisonment, supervision of an involuntary nature has been widely used in the
    United States (including our own country) and civil law countries. It is part of the concept of
    community corrections. A number of states in the United States of America have developed house
    arrest programs as an intermediate sanction. The house arrest concept requires convicted
    offenders to spend extended periods of time in their own home as an alternative to an
    incarceration.
