B. EXPLORE
Let the learner answer Learning Task 1.
They will illustrate a sea with the following: a crab
5ft. below sea level, a cliff 3 ft. above the sea level,
and a flying bird 4 ft. above sea level. They will use
a vertical number line to help them out in the
illustration.
After making the drawing, they will answer
the questions below.
1. What Number might be a good
representation for the sea level?
2. How do represent the distance below and
above the sea level?
3. How far is the cliff from the sea level?
4. How far is the bird from the sea level?
5. How far is the crab from the sea level?
6. What is the distance between the cliff and
the crab?
7. What is the distance between the bird and
the crab?
C. EXPLAIN
The teacher will discuss about Absolute Value
of a number. Point out to students that the absolute
value of a number as a measure of distance will
always be positive or zero since it is simply a
magnitude, a measure. Students should realize the
importance of the absolute value of a number in
context such as transportation, weather, statistics,
and others. The teacher will also discuss the
concept of addition and subtraction of integers.
Emphasis must be given on how the law of signs in
addition is connected to that of subtraction.
The teacher will provide various examples
on how to add and subtract integers in the sense
that mastery of the law of signs in addition of
integers makes subtraction easy for the learners.
D. ELABORATE
The learner will add and subtract integers. Let
them answer Learning Task 2 and 3.
E. EVALUATE
Let the students complete the
statements.
1. When the signs are the same, ________ and keep
the sign.
2. When the signs are ________, subtract and use
the sign of the number with the greater absolute
value.
4. If we add two same numbers with different signs
then the answer is equal to ________.
5. The sum of two negative integers is a ________
integer.
Explain the Home-based activities that they need to
accomplish.
