Affirmative: Death Penalty

Introduction:

The death penalty is not new to our ears. It was previously enacted and implemented but only for a
short time because it was also repealed. But at the present time it is being revived because of the
worsening crimes in our future. Drugs, gun-for-hire killings, murder, rape, child prostitution, kidnapping,
robbery, acts of terrorism and malversation of public funds – these are the worsening crimes in our
society. These are also the problems we will pass on to our children. But for all these crimes there is a
candidate solution. This is the return of the Death Penalty in the Philippines.

Argument 1:

Why should we have death penalty in the country? Because criminals are not afraid of the law and
because the number of criminals is increasing and the facilities to contain them are lacking. We also
need it because the country's resources are being reduced in taking care of criminals in prison. Another,
the prison becomes the headquarters of the criminals and not all criminals suffer even after being
convicted. There are criminals who will not stop doing evil as long as they live and thus, criminals create
new criminals.

Argument 2:

We badly need to bring back death penalty in the country because certain death changes one's
perspective. A person repents, becomes holy, admits wrongdoing, prepares oneself for passing away.
Because even though criminals don't care about people, he cares about his own life. They can be
stopped from committing crimes if they know that their punishment will be death. In addition to that,
the death penalty will prevent the proliferation of vigilantes who take the law into their own hands.

Rebutt 1:

Of course, our judiciary system should also be reviewed immediately to have a fast, fair and clean trial of
crimes. Our government is doing many ways to increase the number of tourists and foreign investment
in the Philippines. But if they would just pour their energy and spend money on reducing crime in the
country, there would definitely be an increase in local business, tourist arrivals, and investments in our
country.
Rebutt 2:
The series of crimes happening in the country is NOT a joke anymore. The death penalty should really be
brought back so that past criminals feel fear. Also include the inexhaustible corrupt government officials.
I hope the progress of this law will not be slow. I hope those who oppose the death penalty will be aware.
Just look at what happened to many people who were mercilessly killed. Thieves and rapists
have nothing to fear anymore, they are just like killing animals. These criminals know that if they are
caught, they can bail. There is a saying, "There should be an eye for an eye." Which means a person who
causes another person to suffer should suffer an equal amount.

Concluding Statement:

We have done so many things to eradicate crimes. We have rehabilitation and imprisonment. But these
solutions seem like they are not effective because there are still so much crimes happening in our
country. Drugs, gun-for-hire killings, murder, rape, child prostitution, kidnapping, robbery, acts of
terrorism and malversation of public funds – these are the worsening crimes in our society. These are
also the problems we will pass on to our children and the next generations in the future. But for all
these crimes, we have a candidate solution and that is the return of the Death Penalty in the Philippines.
