favor one person, group, thing or point of view over another, often in

Activity 1. POSTSPELLING BEE

2. Prejudice - too often causes negative opinions formed


without enough knowledge.

3. Stereotype - an idea or statement about all the members of a


group or all the instances of a situation

4. Preference - a feeling of liking or wanting one thing more


than another.

5. Judgment - an opinion or decision that is based on careful


thought.

6. Techniques - a way of carrying out a particular task,


especially the execution or performance of an artistic
work or a scientific procedure.

8. Testimonial - formal statement testifying to someone's


character and qualifications.

9. Repetition - the action of repeating something that has


already been said or written.

Activity 2: Let’s have RECAP!


In this activity, the Teacher will flash Biased and Unbiased
sentences on the screen. The Learners will then identify if the
sentence is BIASED or UNBIASED. This will serve as a recall of the
previous lesson.

4.3 Analysis Processing Questions

1. Have you learned how to distinguish if a statement is a fact


(5 mins) or an opinion?
2. Is it clear to you how to identify a Biased statement from
Unbiased statements?
3. Are you ready for our test?

4.4 Abstraction Bias is any opinion that influences a person's thoughts, feelings, or
actions. A person can be biased against something or have a bias
for something.

(5 mins) Recognizing Bias

1. Look for loaded words - words that are charged with emotion
(whether positive or negative) can reveal an author's opinion about
his/her topic.

2. Watch out for stereotypes - if the author labels an entire group,


the writing is probably biased.

3. Notice vague language or generalizations - if the author isn't using


specific language, this could be an indicator of bias.

4. Be on the lookout for one-sided arguments - if the author only


presents one side of an argument, his/her writing is probably biased.

5. Does the author present facts or opinions? Facts are what they
are - the truth. But opinions can be based on feelings, emotions, or
prejudices, which aren't objective.

(2 mins) The Teacher will let the students scan their notes and to prepare for
the test.
4.6 Assessment I. Direction. Read each items carefully. Identify whether
the statement is Biased or Unbiased. Choose from the
choices given below. Write only the letter of the correct
answer.

II. The students will perform the role play with the Topic
assigned to them which is Bandwagon, Testimonial,
Transfer, Repetition, and Emotional Words
