Artist
- All artist’s work aims to create an overall reaction from a viewer.
- All fine artist first learn to sketch and begin with a pencil and sketch pad to work with an idea on paper.
They transfer their visions to canvas or other medium and this may mean working in pencils, oils, water
color or pastels.

Job responsibilities of an artist include;


• Developing ideas for canvas or product
• Selecting medium for a final work, including textures, size, or area.
• Collecting work for a portfolio and
• Applying for grants for finacial support

Artisan
- Artisan are craftsmen who make practical artistic product.

- Artisans gain their knowledge by studying under master craftsmen and practicing with continued study.
They work to create something new, original and at times, provocative.

Job responsibility of an artisan includes;


• Using and mixing mediums like paint, metal, glass, or fabric.
• Shaping, gluing, sewing, testing and producing products
• Displaying work at various sites including auctions, craftshows, or online markets.

The Needed Skills and Qualifications of a Career in Art


- Performing arts management covers some specific areas which highlight the
following
 ORGANIZATION - duty of a performing arts manager is to manage and administrate.
 ACCOUNTUNG - A performance arts manager draws up budgets with the team and
ensures its responsibility.
 THE LAW - The law protects creative rights-that of the artists and the artisans.
 FUNDRAISING - A major element of the position is securing the funding your
organization needs to achieve its aims and fulfil its potential. 
 MARKETING - Advertisements and promotions increase are production and sales
 PUBLIC REACTION - He or she serves drinks and provides a better service to the
customer.
 FLEXIBILITY - Career in the art does not have fixed schedule.

ART DEALER
- An art dealer buys and sells art masterpiece.

Main Duties of art dealer:


• Dealing – Buying and selling art masterpieces which involves negotiating prices and delivery.
• Networking – It is the establishment of art collectors, gallerists, and other potential clients.
• Searching – It is spending of time to look for the art masterpieces from galleries and markets.

ART COLLECTORS
- observe trends in art and at times, ignite a craze for it.
ART BUYER
- It is an art buyer’s job to produce commercial advertising projects while maintaining a creative
integrity within a budget.
What is Art Production and Why Does it Matter?
● What is Art Production and Why Does it Matter?
Production is a word with many meanings. It can refer to the making of something, or to a final product,
like theatrical performance. It can be the process of bringing a song or musical work to life or honing that
work to perfection.
● What Does It Have to Do with Art?
Production is at the heart of making art. Artists and theorists have long acknowledge its importance both
as an artistic action and an idea to be explored.
PRODUCTION PROCESS
-The process of creating an artwork does not necessarily follow a linear progression. Artwork requires
creativity, which does not always adhere to convention that artists usually used to do.

The process is essentially tripartie:


1. Preproduction - Process
of anticipating the production of art mastetpieces
2. Production - It is the actual execution and creation of art.
3. Post Production - It is exhibiting the masterpieces in the gallery, the launching of a book, the
preview of a movie and a dance rehearsal.

Award, Recognition and Renown


- Award - An award is something that is conferred or bestowed especially on the basis of merit or need.
-Recognition - Refers to and esteem credit given to an artist’s best performance in the art world.
- Renown - A renown artist signifies a more cosmopolitan form of recognition beyond the esoteric circles
in which the artist moves.

National and GAMABA Artist’s Notable Works and Contributions


• The Philippines congress passed RA No. 7355 (GAMABA)
GAMABA – Gawad sa Manlilikha ng Bayan or the National living treasures award.
The National Commission for Culture and the arts( NCAA)
i. Implementing agency of the said Law.
ii. Through GAMABA Committee and an “AD HOC PANEL OF EXPERTS”
• AD HOC PANEL OF EXPERTS
- They Conduct a search for the finest traditional artists on the land
- Adopt a program that will ensure the transfer of their skill to others and under take
measures to promote a genuine appreciation of an instill pride among our people about the
genius of “ Manlilikha ng Bayan”.
• Envisioned under RA 7355, “MANILKHA NG BAYAN”
- Citizen engaged in any traditional art uniquely Filipino whose;
i. Distinctive skill
ii. Widely practiced by the present generation
• GAMABA awardees are required to participate in different cultural ( local and national
events).
Qualifications to Become a Manlilikha ng Bayan based on the NCCA Guidelines

- Inhabitants of an indigenous/traditional cultural community.


- Engaged in a folk-art tradition for at least 50 years,
- Consistently performed or produced over a significant period, work of superior and
distinctive quality.
- Process a mastery of tools and materials needed by the art.
- Passed on and will pass on to other members of the community in their skill in the folk-
art.

“TRADITIONAL ARTIST IS INCAPABLE OF TEACHING HIS/HER MASTERPIECE


DUE TO ADVANCED AGE OR SICKNESS”- HE/SHE CAN STILL BE REWARDED IF ;
i. Create a significant body of works.
ii. Consistently displayed excellence in the art.
iii. Instrumental in the revitalization of community artistic tradition.
iv. Passed on the other member of the community skill in the folk-art.
v. Community has recognized him/her as master and teacher of his/her own art

ii. 10,000 monthly financial assistance

vi. 750,000 maximum cumulative amount (medical & hospitalization benefits – annually).

- Composed of members of the GAWAD SA MANLILIKHA NG BAYAN
COMMITTEE
( 1 Representative from each committees of the Sub-commission on “CULTURAL
COMMUNITIES” & “TRADITIONAL ARTS”), ( Representative from office of
“MUSLIM AFFAIR”- OMA), ( NATIONAL COMMISSIONS IN INDIGENEOUS
PEOPLE- NCIP ), ( Representatives from other government and non-government
instrumentalities.
- Who will choose & nominate for the members.
- Should institute an “AD HOC SCREENING COMMITTEE” – who shall recommend
nominees for the award to an “AD HOC PANEL OF REVIEWERS”.
- Nominees are based on their knowledge and expector.

- Nominate or recommend nominees to an “AD HOC PANEL IF REVIEWERS.
• AD HOC SEARCH COMMUNITY
- Searching for a documentation if candidates or award.
• AD HOC PANEL OF REVIEWERS
- Review the recommendations if the “AD HOC SCREENING.”
- Evaluate the qualifications of the nominees.

After evaluating the list of nominees will be submitted to Gawad sa manlilikha ng bayan
committee to submit to the NCCA. If it’s approved the names shall be, to the president by the
Philippines for proclamation.

● The Order of National Artists
NATIONAL ARTIST
A national artist is a filipino citizen who has been given the rank and title of national artist in
recognition of his/her significant contribution to the development of Philippines arts and letters.
● WHAT IS THE ORDER OF NATIONAL ARTIST
Those who have been proclaimed National Artist are given a grand collar symbolizing their
status. Recipients this grand collar make up the Order of National Artist. The order of National
Artist (Orden g Gawad Pambansang Alagad ng Sining). Is thus a rank, a title and a wearable
award that represents the highest national recognition given to Filipinos who have made distinct
contribution in the field of art and letters it is jointly administrated by the National Commission
for Culture and the Arts (NCCA) and the Cultural Center of The Philippines (CCP) and is
coffered by the president of the Philippines upon recommendation by bot institutions,
The Insignia of The Order of National Artists
- The insignia of the order of the national artist is composed of a grand collar featuring
circular links portraying the arts and an eight pointed conventionalized sunburst
suspended for a sampaguita wreath in green and white enamel.
- The central badge is a medallion divided into three equal portions, red, white and blue
recalling the Philippine flag, with three stylized letter Ks The “ KKK” stands or the CCP
motto Katotohanan, Kabutihan, at Kagandahan (“The true, The good and the beautiful”)
as coined by then first lady Mrs. Imelda Marcos, The CCP’s founder. The Composition
of the grand collar is silver gilt bronze. In place of a rosette there is an enameled pin in
the form of the insignia of the order.

Legal Bases for giving the Order of National Artists from the Official
Gazette of the Philippines

1. Proclamation NO. 1144, s. 1973


• Named the CCP Board of Trustees as the National Artist Awards Committee
Presidential Decree NO. 208, s. 1973
• Reiterated the mandate of the CCP to administer the National Artist Awards
as well as the privileges and honors to National Artist
Executive Order No. 236, s. 2003
• Known as the Honors Code of the Philippines
• Conferred additional prestige on the National Artist Award
• Fourth in precedence among the orders and decorations that comprise the
Honors of the Philippines
• Equal in rank to the Order of National Scientists and the Gawad sa
Manlilikha ng Bayan
• Renamed the order of National Artists (Orden ng mga Pambansang Alagad
ng Sining) Section 5 of EO 236
• 3. Executive order No. 435, s. 2005 amended Section 5 of EO 236
• Giving the President the power to name National Artists without need of a
recommendation.

Criteria for the selection of National Artists from the Official Gazette of the
Philippines\
Process of Nomination and Conferment of the Order ; Following Criteria for
the selection of National Artist from the Official Gazette of the Philippines:
1. Artists who were citizens of the Philippines at the time of nomination and
passed away after the award's creation are eligible.
2. Artists that have contributed to Filipino nationhood through their works.
3. Artists who have pioneered a style of creative expression or style have made
an impact on future generations.
4. Artists who have consistently displayed excellence in their art form enrich
their artistic expression or style.
5. Artists who enjoy broad acceptance through:
6. Prestigious national/international recognition such as the Gawad CCP Para
sa Sining, CCP Thirteen Artists Award and NCCA Alab ng Haraya
7. Critical acclaim and/ reviews of their works
8. Respect and esteem from peers.

Honors and privileges to the National Artists from the Official Gazette of the
Philippines
- The rank and title of National Artist ( Proclaimed by the President of the
Philippines.
- The Insignia of a National Artist and citation;
- A lifetime emolument and material and physical benefits comparable in
value to those received by the highest officers of the land such as:
 A cash award of One Hundred Thousand Pesos (P100,000) net of taxes,
for living awardees
 A cash award of Seventy-Five Thousand Pesos (P75,000) net of taxes,
for posthumous awardees, payable to legal heir/s
 A monthly life pension, medical and hospitalization benefits
 Life insurance coverage for awardees who are still insurable
 A state funeral and burial at the libingan ng mga Bayani

The Short Summaries of the Lives and Achievements of the National Artists

Lauro “Larry” Alcala (18 August 1926-24 June 2002)


- Is famous for his cartoons. His comic strips spiced up the
slices of Filipino lives with witty illustrations executed
throughout his 56 years of cartooning.
- He created over 500 characters and 20 comic strips in widely
circulated publications.

Amelia Lapena-Bonifacio
- She is known as the grand Dame of southeast Asian
Children’s theatre.
- She is the founder and playwright-director of the
Teatrong’ Mulat ng Pilipinas, which has placed the
Philippines on the artistic map of world theatre.
- She has written most of the plays performed by the group
based on material culled from careful researches.
- She has been involved in the production and design of
puppets.
Ryan Cyabyab
- He is the most accomplished composer, arranger and
musical director in the Philippine music industry since it
bloomed beginning 1970s.
- His skillful and versatile musical style spans a wide range
of genres from compositions such as concert religious
music, symphonic work, art song, opera and concerto to
mainstream popular idioms in music industry and live
contemporary shows.

Kidlat Tahimik (Eric de Guia)


- He invented himself through his cinema and so his cinema
is a singular as the man.
- His debut film, Mababangong Bangungot. (1977), was
praised by critics and film makers from Europe, North
America, Asia and Africa.
- Kidlat’s intence independence as an artist and, at the same
time, the film itself called for Filipinos to actively live our
their independence and not allow their culture to be
imperialized by the west.\
- Kidlat’s “imperfect” film is an exemplar of what is
worldwide known as “Third Cinema”, but unlike other
third Cinema films, Kidlat’s work does not glory in
ugliness.

Francisco T. Mañosa
- was a Filipino architect considered one of the most
influential Filipino architects of the 20th century
- He passionately created original Filipino forms, spaces with
intricate and define details.
- He has developed a legacy of Philippine architecture, which
is essential to our filipino identity.
Resil B. Mojares
- Resil is a teacher and scholar, essayist and fictionist, and
cultural and literary Historian.
- He is acknowledge as a leading figure in the promotion of
regional literature and history.
- As the founding director of the Cebuano Studies Center, a
significant research organization that helped to establish
Cebu as a research and documentation hub, he paved the
way for the development of the Cebuano and national
identities.
- Over 50 years he published in diverse forms (fiction, essay,
journalism, scholarly articles and books) across a wide
range of discipline (literature, history, biography, cultural
studies)
- He has published 17 books and edited, co-edited, or co-
authored 11 books, and written numerous articles for
popular and scholarly publications.

Ramon Muzones
- Ramon was Hiligaynon poet, essayist, short story
writer, critic, grammarian, editor, lexicographer,
and novelist who authored an unprecedented 61
completed novels. A number of these represents
groundbreaking “firsts” in Hiligaynon literature such as
the feminist Ang Bag-ong Maria Clara, the roman a
clef Maambong Nga Sapat (Magnificent Brute, 1940),
the comic Si Tamblot (1946), The longest serialized
novel, Dama de Noche (1982-1984, 124 installments),
etc. Hailed by his peers as the longest reigning (1938-
1972) among “the three kings of the Hiligaynon
novel”
- He brought about its most radical changes while
ushering in modernism.
- His literary career spanned 53 years (1938-1990). It can
be noted that the qualifications of GAMABA is quite
higher compared to the National Artist.

Artists, Art Director, Actor, Dancer, DirectorCraft & Fine Artists, Photographer,
Multimedia Artists, Performing Arts Manager or Arts Administrator. While there are 10
Needed Skills and Qualifications of a Career in Art namely; Organization, Accounting,
The Law, Fundraising, Marketing, Public Reaction, Flexibility, Art Dealer, Art
Collectors & Art Buyer. In Production, there are 3 processes includes Pre-Production,
Production & Post-Production. In order to have another set of nominees for receiving an
award as GAMABA Artist or NATIONAL Artist, It has to be approved by AD HOC
PANEL OF EXPERTS to be pass to AD HOC SEARCH and pass to AD HOC
SCREENING and reviewed by AD HOC PANEL OF REVIEWERS and confirmed by
GAMABA members and lastly should be approved by the PRESIDENT. These are some
of the members of the GAMABA Artits that was discovered by their individual talents in
Art namely; Ginaw Bilog, Masino Intaray, Samaon Sulainab, Lang Dulay, Alonzo
Saclag, Federico Caballero, Uwang Ahadas, Darhata Sawabi, Eduardo Mutuc, Haja

Yabing Masalon Dulo. NATIONAL Artist received an Insignia which composed of a
grand collar featuring circular links portraying the arts and an eight-pointed
conventionalized sunburst and the talented and Achiever People who Received the
National Artist Award are the following: Lauro “Larry” Alcala, Amelia Lapano-
Bonifacio, Ryan Cayabyab, Kidlat Tahimik, Francisco T. Mañosa, Resil B, Mojares,
Ramon Muzones. Lastly, In Organizing an Event , Exhibit and Managing Audience We
need to consider the Event Concept (Why, Whom, When, Where, What), Event
Coordination ( Productive brainstorming, Delegation of vspecific tasks, Event
Culmination (Actualization Comparing and contrastin, Event Control (Result of previous
planning), Event Closeout (Reviewing & Evaluating). By learning this Lesson this will
help us to Understand the Arts Industries and how it works in society and to see how

and lastly, be able to realize the impotant of arts in society.
