The Creative Process

we learn by practice and hands-on experience

1. Conceive the result you want to create
- “creation starts at the end”
2. Know what currently exists

novel/artwork in any area of knowledge
without being aware of what is being done in
that area.

enough, you have to do something to make it
real.
4. Develop your creativity
- Every new creation gives you fresh thoughts
and knowledge of your own creative process.
5. Learn the rhythms of the creative
process
- There are three fundamental stages in every
creative process: germination, assimilation,
and completion.
Three stages in the Creative Process
1. Germination (Idea)
- It is the iniatial moment when you conceive
a new project in your mind.
- In the germination stage, you are planting
the seeds of your creation.
- You need to be more specific about what
you want to do.
2. Assimilation
- It is crucial step in the creative process.
- During this phase you will internalize and
assimilate or incorporate the idea you want to
create.
- In this way your creation grows from inside
and begins to manifest in everything you do,
consciously or unconsciously.
3. Completion
- Completion is the time to finish your
project, to give it the final shape before your
present it to the audience.
- Put a deadline to your projects and do not
get entangled in small and never anding
details.
- A beautiful way to conclude your project is
by celebrating them.
Three Stages in Art Making
1. Pre - production or subject development

Award
- The award was institutionalized in 1992
through the Republic Act No. 7335.
- The National Commission for Culture and
the Arts (NCCA) was tasked forthe
implementation.
How Does One Becomes a Manlilikha ng
Bayan?
To become a Manlilikha ng Bayan, the
candidate must possess the following
qualifications:
a. He/she is an inhabitant of an
indigenous /traditional cultural

cummunity that has preserved
indigenous customs, beliefs, rituals
and tradition.
b. He/she must engaged in a folk art
tradition that has been existence for
atleast fifty (50) years.
c. c. He/she must have consistently
performed or produced over a
significant period, works of
superior and distinctive quality.
d. d. He/she must possess a mastery
of tools and materials needed by the
art and must have an established in
the art as a master.
e. e. He/she must have passed on or
will passed on the other member of
the community their skills in
f. the folk art.

Duties and Responsibilities of awardees
The Manlilikha ng Bayan is a link between
the past in which his/her traditional folk art
found fertile soil for growth.
• To transfer the skills of his/her
traditional folk art to the younger
generation.
• To cooperate with the promotion

Literature
1. Ginaw Bilog
- first awardee of GAMABA 1993
- recognized for the preservation of the Surat
Mangyan or Mangyan Scrip and the Ambahan
- kept the Ambahan recorded both in Bamboo
tubes and old notebook
2. Federico Caballero
- aka Nong Pedring was conferred the
GAMABA award in 2000
- Panay-Bukidnon epic Chanter who
preserved his community’s oral tradition by
documenting the epics of the ancestor
- mother and great-great-mother influenced
him
- ten epics of their region and advocate the
preservation of tradition in his region by
travelling from barangay to barangay to
encourage other indigenous groups to learn
how to read and write.
Music and Dance
1. Alonzo Saclag
- Master of Dance and Performing Arts from
Kalinga. He did not receive any formal
education in performing arts, but still he
mastered the choreography and musical
instrument of Kalinga just by observation and
practice.
- He also campaigned. for the use of local
costumes that help children to learn folk
songs.
- He lobbied for two years with the provincial
government to grant funds to convert the
abandoned capitol building into a museum,
the Lubuagan branch of the National
Museum.

songs in local radios
- stablished the Kalinga Budong Dance

of his ancestors are passed on the younger

2. Masino Intaray
- Came from the indigenous community in
southern Palawan called the Palawan. In Tarai
was a musician and a poet whose expertise
were the Basal, Kulilal, and Bagit
- Basal is a kind of musical ensemble played
during the time below, a ritual of fries sharing
among the Palawan people as an offering to
the Lord of Rice and wine drinking ceremony.
- Furthermore, Masino Intaray is a notable
storyteller and the epic chanter. For many
nights he chanted numerous epics, narratives
and myths. For the Palawan Intaray was a
true man of art who preserved the tradition,
music and culture of his people.

3. Samaon Sulaiman
- Is a Magin Donavon musical from
Mamasapano, Maguindanao. He is a master
in playing the kutyapi, a 2-string plucked lute.
The Kutyapi is one of the most difficult
master but was. able to play it with grace and
exemplary talent.

people to play the Kutyapi as well, which
kept the playing of Kutyapi alive in
Mindanao.

4. Uwang Ahadas
- is the exemplary musician of Yakan of
Lamitan Basilan, whose expertise dwell in the
playing the indigenous instrument called
Kwintangan kayu. This is being played after
the planting of rice to serenade palay.

on passes on his skill to people beyond the
borders of his community to preserve the
indigenous music
- despite having a defect in his eyesight and
dimming vision he managed to preserve and
promote the music of the Yakan even if it
means there some traveling from places to

Weaving
1. Darhata Sawabi 2004
- What's a master Weaver of the traditional
pisyabit of the Tausug. Jolo,, conserving the
kids. Of Tausug design and just like any other
master artist, she passed down her talent and
skill for the next generation to witness.
- traditionally, pisyabit is worn by men in her
community as an ornament or a headdress of
the Tausug men that symbolizes the wearer's
rank in the society
2. Haja Amina Appi 2004
- She was credited for creating colorful
pandan mats with complex geometric
patterns. Her creation work is acclaimed for
their precise sense of design, proportion and
symmetry, and sensitivity to color.

down exclusively among women among the
Sama of Tawi Tawi. Traditionally, it was
passed down from mother to daughter.

3. Lang Dulay 1998
- was a Filipino traditional Weaver who has a
recipient of the National Living Treasure
Award and the GAMABA.
-She is credited with preserving her people's
traditional off leaving T’nalak, died fabric
made from refined abaca fibre..
- set up the Manlilikha ng Bayan Center
workshop in her hometown to promote. The
traditional art of T’nalak weaving and by
2014 five of her grandchildren have become
weavers.
4. Magdalena Gamayo 2012
- A native of Pinili, Ilocos Norte learned the
Ilocano weaving tradition of making Abel
from her aunt at age of 16.
-She taught herself on how to execute the
traditional patterns of binakol (geometric
dsign), kusikos orange-like spiral form) and
abel (weaved of different patterns). She
became best known for weaving the Abel,
since it is the most challenging pattern among
the four.
5. Salinta Monon 1998
- Is a Bagobo Textile master Weaver. She's
considered the best of the best of the Weaver
in her community in Bansalan, Davao del Sur.
- She started weaving the traditional bagobo
fabrics, which are made out of abaca fibers, at
the age of 12.
- Her work is regarded as the finest due to its
high quality textiles and intricate designs. She
was also known for her Bagobo-Tagabawa
textiles and was known as the last Bagobo
Weaver.
Metal Works
1. Eduardo Mutuc 2004
- also known as Tata Eddy, is a Filipino metal
Smith and sculptor. He is known to be a
practitioner of the craft of pinukpuk. Which
involved the stamping of embellishment of
metal sheets.
- Motor creates work of both secular and
religious nature using silver, wood and bronze
mediums. This includes retablos Mirrors,
altars and carosas
2. Teofilo Garcia 2012
- was conferred with GAMABA in 2012
recognition of his excellence and dedication
in making kattukong or gourd hat.
- was born and raised in San Quintin, Abra.
He acquired the knowledge of making
kattukong and weaving baskets. From his
grandfather at the age of 15.
