1. Direct Quotation

A. Direct quotation is when you take a passage directly

from a source text and put it into your own work,

word-for-word, in quotation marks.

B. The most common reason for doing this is when the

exact wording of the source text is important.

C. It’s very important that the quotation be exactly

accurate and cited appropriately.

D. Citation

1. In-text element: Brief indication; refers

reader to end citation for more information.


2. End note: Provides detailed information about

where the quotation comes from. Allows the reader

to find the original quote on their own.
