Pantograph Design Changes
Preparation of the pantograph for
inspection and maintenances:

1) Fully extend the pantograph per
SH 006 022 000 00046.
2) With pantograph in open position,
screw in a M12 x1.75 (shown
below) in one of the pantograph
carriage base channels
3) Engage the M12 screw 12 to 20
mm.
4) Slightly retract the pantograph
until the bearings contact the
12mm screw (P/N F121012020)
5) The head of the M12 screw will
prevent the pantograph from
collapsing.
6) Carry out maintenance work

7) After the work has been completed, fully extend the scissor mechanism.
8) Remove the screw
9) The pantograph can now become collapsed.
10) Screw can be placed on the top screw hole of the carriage.
11) Screw is to be tighten to 50 Nm

• Fully extend the pantograph and secure as stated on SH 006 022 000 00046
• This is to expose inner scissor components and to check for any wear and/or play on the
scissor axial connection points.
• Single Deep will have two axial connection points “A”

A. Adjustment of axial play in the central and outer movements of the braces this
applies to Single and Deep Reach Pantographs
1) Secure the pantograph as mentioned in SH
2) Loosen both nuts “30a” and “30b” using a 30mm wrench
3) Eliminate the excessive plays by tightening the inner nut “30b”
4) Do not overtighten “30b”; Avoid to lock the movement completely
5) Tighten first nut “30b” to 200Nm against Belleville Washer “40”, then release tension
by ½ turn.
6) To lock, tighten second nut “30a” against nut “30b” to 200Nm
7) Add a Paint Mark for future inspection.
8) Install the cotter Pin “10”

A. Adjustment of axial play in the central and outer
movements of the braces this applies to Single and Deep
Reach Pantographs
9) After adjustment, check all pivot points on the scissor arm
braces for the following
a) Noise during functions (Open and Close)
b) Metal shavings
c) Abnormal movement
d) Abnormal twist during functions (Open and Close)
e) Play in vertical, horizontal and lateral pivot (based on Single
design)
f) Collision or rubbing of weldment structures

10) If some paint scrapped is noticed on the scissor arm, this can
be considered normal wear if the following applies
a) Minor wear of paint
b) No metal shavings
c) No play at pivot movement vertical, horizontal and
lateral pivot (based on design)
d) No noise during functions (Open and Close)
e) No collision of structures during operation (Open
and Close) Deep
f) No event triggered during functions

B. Adjustment of the axis-to-axis distance of the Pantograph
Adjust if you determine the reach and retract is not completely collapsing or extending to spec
o Single Deep Pantograph : Pc = 23mm (.9 in) and Po = 633mm (24.9 in)
o Double Deep Pantograph : Pc = 215mm (8.7 in) and Po = 1282mm (50.5 in)
o Take the measurement from the face of the carriage to the middle of the tilt pin.

B. Adjustment of the axis-to-axis distance of the Pantograph
Spec can be achieved by adjustment of the reach cylinders

1. With the pantograph extended and secure


as stated on SH 006 022 000 00046
2. Loosen the Set screw “7”
3. Lock washer “6” with bend tab needs to be
straighten.

4. Brake loose nut “5” with a wrench.
5. Turn the rod with a wrench
Tighten set
counterclockwise to increase or clockwise screw to 10±
to decrease distance. (1/4 turn = .375mm). 1Nm.
6. Once adjustment is met tighten Nut “5”
with a torque of 400± 10Nm.

7. Lock the washer “6” by bending a tab 6
towards the Nut “5” to keep it from twisting
off.
8. Tighten the set screw “7” to 10± Nm.
9. When validating adjustment review full
Open and Closed measurements.

1. Fork Carriage Removal (Single and Deep pantograph)
a) Remove the forks from fork carriage “D” (Side Shift is optional).
b) Extend the pantograph and block per SH 006 022 000 00046.
c) Remove the hold down caps screws “20” and adapter plates “10” on Fig.1.
d) Remove fork carriage “D” by using lifting straps
e) Lift and slightly rotate away from pantograph.
f) To re-install revert steps a-e
g) Tighten the screws “20” to 60 ± 5Nm on adapter plates “10”.

a) Disconnect hoses from front manifold to Side Shift cylinder. Cap the fittings and
connections on Fig.2.1. (Optional)
b) Disconnect any electrical harnesses and options if equipped on Fig.2.2.
c) Remove the hardware “70,50 and 60” on Fig.2.2.

2. Tilt Structure removal (Single and Deep pantograph)
d) With a lifting strap secure the tilt structure before the removal of the tilt pins.
e) Unscrew both right and left tilt screw “E” on Fig.2.3.
f) Remove the tilt pins “F” by driving them out with a punch and hammer from inside out.
g) Slowly elevate the tilt structure away from the front structure.
h) Make sure the tilt mechanism is released.

3. Front Structure Removal (Single and Deep
pantograph) 3
a) Remove all electrical wiring if equipped with options.
b) Remove clamp “1” on Aux hoses to manifold “30,40
and 50” on Fig.4.
c) Disconnect All hoses to Manifold “2”. Cap fittings 1
and connections.
d) Secure Front structure frame “3” with lifting straps.
e) Slightly lift to add tension to the lifting straps to 2
support the structure load.
f) Remove bottom screws on wear strip “4” on both
sides of the front structure channel.
g) Remove screw and Pin “10” and 20” from both sides 4
on Fig.4. Use a punch and hammer to drive out.

3. Front Structure Removal (Single and Deep pantograph)
h) At this point you have the full load of the front structure on the lifting straps.
i) Slowly elevate front structure “5” on Fig.3.3
j) Rollers will glide on channel “8” until its free form scissor arms “6” and roller bearing “7” as
shown in Fig.3.2.

4. Tilt cylinder removal (Single and Deep pantograph)
a) With Steps 1 thru 3 completed, the tilt cylinder can be
removed easier.
b) Remove clamp at bottom of Front structure “120-140”
shown on Fig.4.1.
c) Disconnect tilt cylinder hoses “110” and “100” to
manifold. Cap fittings and connections.

d) Remove all screws “90” to remove the Flange plate “60” in Fig.4.2.
e) Remove both Bushings “50” by sliding away from Tilt cylinder as shown in Fig.4.3.
f) Once all hoses have been removed the tilt cylinder comes out thru the front.
g) It can go out thru the back, but you must pull forward, twist and push back.

4. Tilt cylinder re-assembly (Single and Deep pantograph)
h) Revert on steps A thru G on Tilt Cylinder Removal.
i) Before installing new tilt cylinder, remove cosmoline residue with solvent, also apply
grease inside and outside the bushing “5”.
j) Add grease to surfaces per spec.
k) Torque all hardware to spec as shown on Fig.4.4. Tighten to
25 ± 2Nm

a) With the pantograph fully extended and block per SH 006 022 000 00046.
b) Access the Reach cylinders under the scissor arm and thru operator compartment screen if
the pantograph is attached to the channel; view Fig.5.1.
c) Remove all hoses connecting to the reach cylinders (RH and LH) as shown in Fig.5.2.; cap
and plug fittings.
d) Right and Left cylinder is determined viewing the pantograph from the fork to the carriage.

e) Remove the screw “1” and drive out the Pin “2” that connects the upper scissor arm to the
reach cylinder Yoke as shown on Fig.5.3.

g) Thru the Operator compartment side with screen removed access the back of the pantograph

h) Remove screw “1”, hold cylinder before driving out Pin “2” shown on Fig.5.5.
i) Remove pin with extractor or hammer with punch, cylinder removal is complete.
j) Do this to both Right and Left cylinders.

h) Revert on steps C thru J on Reach Cylinder Removal.
i) Drive pin “2” into place, always check for play/wear.
j) Secure the pin “2” with Nord lock washer “3” and hex cap screw “1” torqued to 40 Nm as shown on
Fig.5.6.
k) Fig.5.7. shows the Reach cylinder yoke Pin “4”, insert thru yoke and secured with a Nord-Lock
washer “5” and hex cap screw “6” torqued to 40 Nm.

l) Install all hoses and fittings as shown in Fig.5.8. tighten fittings to 17± 2Nm
m) Hoses “120” and “110” must be replaced with 3/16-inch hoses (current production).

r) If Reach hoses come loose or leak, please assure the following items are current
production.

o JH Design Pantograph must have the current free lift head; New design free lift head

a) With the Extended pantograph and blocked per 1,2,31and 5
SH 006 022 000 00046.
b) Sections/Steps 1, 2, 3 and 5 must be
performed. All hoses, options and harness to be
removed.
c) The Pantograph is to be removed from unit
refer to SH 006 021 520 00003 for general
process. Once the pantograph is removed from

the unit the scissor mechanism can become
collapsed.
d) By following the section 006 022 000 00046 in 12mm eye
SH; lifting points specified, use lifting straps to bolt
maneuver pantograph and place the
pantograph on to its carriage side as shown in
Fig.6.2.
e) Secure the carriage to keep in place while
performing the removal of the scissor arm
braces.

f) On a Deep reach pantograph, the Lower Arm 2 DD LH and RH will need to be removed.
Remove the axial nut hardware “2” and pull scissor arms off.
g) Upper Arm 2 DD “3” can not be removed at this point, during the following steps this
structure will be attached.

h) Use a lifting strap on the Lower Scissor Arm “4” to support the scissor assembly as shown
in Fig.6.3. This will ease on the removal of Upper Scissor Arm. On a Deep reach, this can
be done by engaging to the same general area with lifting straps.

i) Remove the screw “6” on Upper Arm on Left and Right side shown on Fig.6.5.
j) Access holes “5” on side of carriage (Base) to drive out the Pin “7” on Fig.6.4 and Fig.6.5.

assembly slowly up away from carriage.

twisting the Lower Scissor

arms attached to each other
by the axial washers shown in

q) Revert on steps I thru O Scissor Arm Removal.
r) With the upper scissor arm structure removed the Spherical Bearings 5090980 “8” are
exposed as shown on Fig.6.10.
s) Assure the correct spherical bearings (Self-Lubricating bearings) are installed on the upper arm
structure shown on Fig.6.10.

w) Once the Upper and Lower scissor arms are attached and torqued “Fig.6.13” you can
install the assembled braces back on to the carriage.

y) Once the Scissor Arm braces are on the Carriage (Base) install the pin “8” on each side.
z) Torque the Screw with a Nord lock washer “2 and 3” to 25 ± 2Nm as shown in Fig.6.16.
aa) Install the pantograph back on the unit and follow reference to points in sections 1 thru 6 if
applicable. • Screw (F121008030) tighten to 25 ±
2Nm We recommend to use Blue Thread

7. Tilt Pin Replacement Only
1) Remove forks to reduce load
2) Extend the pantograph as stated by the SH 006 022 000 00046.
3) Support the tilt structure “G” with lifting straps (Crane or forklift can be used).
4) Remove the screw holding the Pin in place.
5) With a punch and hammer strike the inside of the Pin to drive it out. Be careful not to
damage bushing surface.

Note: Fig 1 is the previous Pin (bolt) and Fig 3 is


the current Pin (bolt);Update to Fig 3 items if you
have previous pin version.

7. Tilt Pin Replacement Only
6) Install Pin “4” with grove facing the outside of the tilt structure.
7) Use a piece of wood and hammer to drive the Pin, until the groove is flush with the surface
of the tilt structure frame.
8) Insert the Plate “3” into the groove of the Pin “4”
9) Secure it with the Nord Lock washer “2” and the M8x20mm screw “1”
10) Tighten Screw “1” to 40 ±2Nm.
11) Repeat steps 4-9 for the Pin replacement on the other side.
12) Once both pins are replaced and secured remove lifting straps.
13) Re-install forks and perform a final function test.
