I. OBJECTIVES
A. Content Standard The learners demonstrate an understanding of the characteristics of
sound.

B. Performance Standard The learner shall be able to conduct a forum on mitigation and disaster
risk reduction

C. Learning Competency A. Explain sound production in the human voice box, and how pitch,
loudness, and quality of sound vary from one person to another( S7LT-
IIIe-8).

B . Produce sounds using drinking straw.

- Used of sound in our
life ma’am.
- Very good!

D. Discussing new - Today we will discuss about the

concepts and practicing Production of Sound.
new skills #1
Sound production and Transmission

Sound waves are longitudinal waves.

Three basic elements that vibration

produce sounds:
1 source

2 medium (solid, liquid gas)

3 detectors or the receiver.

Source or transmitter-is the object

producing the wave.

Detector or receiver- is the object

response to the wave.

Medium- is the vehicles through which

wave travels from one point to the next.
Sound travel fastest through solid, faster
in liquid, and slowest through gases.

- I have short video here to

understand more about production
of sound.

How human produce sound.

The production of sound/ human voice is

attributed three components:

1. the lungs that produce sufficient

airflow and air pressure.

2 the vocal folds with in the larynx that

are responsible for producing the sound

3. the articulates ( part of vocal part tract

such as the tongue, palate, lips) that
articulate and filter the sound emanating
from the larynx.

- Men and women have different sizes

of vocal fold, which mean that men and
women have different pitch. Males
usually have larger folds than females.

Males- length ranges 17 mm to 25 mm

Females- 12.5 mm to 17.5 mm.

- I have video here to understand

better.

E. Discussing new
concept and practicing
Detecting sound
new skills #2.

The figure shows the parts of the human

ear.

Divided into three part;

Outer ear- acts as funnel to channel the

sound wave to the eardrum, which then
will set the eardrum into vibration.

Middle ear- the vibration will pass

through the middle ear by the three tiny
bones ( hammer, anvil, and stapes).

Inner ear- these bones amplify the

amplitude of the vibrations and pass them
to inner ear.

Infrasonic vs. Ultrasonic

Infrasonic sound – sound whose

frequencies are lower than 20Hz. Human
ear cannot detect but you may feel the
rumbling of the waves through your
body.

Ultrasonic sound- sounds with

frequency higher than 20000 Hz.

Sonic or audible sound- Normal range

for human ear 20- 20000 Hz

F. Developing Mastery
Let’s have an activity I will call someone
to answer my questions if you cannot
answer you can choice other person to
answer the question.

It is sounds with frequency higher than

20000 Hz
- Ultrasonic sound
Estenzo ma’am
- Sonic ma’am
It is Normal range for human ear 20-
20000 Hz

It is sound whose frequencies are lower - Infrasonic sound

than 20Hz.
(student answer may
vary)

G. Finding practical
Share your ideas about using sounds in
applications of concepts
and skills on daily living our daily life.
H. Making
generalizations and
abstractions about the - What is the lesson I discuss -About production of
topic. lately? sound ma’am
- How we produce sound?
- What is the use of our ear? - Detector of sound
ma’am
- Differentiate infrasonic and
ultrasonic sound.

- What is the normal range of - 20- 20000Hz ma’am

human ear?

- Very good!
