Questions
1. What did you observe in the video? (Answers may vary)

2. What can you say about the life of those people? - Their life depends
on our environment.
- They used tools
made of stones
- They hunt animals
for their food
3. What are the three periods that have been mentioned in
the video?
Peleolithic period,
Mesolithic period, and
Neolithic period
Thank you for your answers.

Based on our activity, do you have any idea what will be

our lesson today?
I think our lesson
today is about the
Paleolithic,
Very Good! Mesolithic, and
Neolithic period.
But before we proceed to our discussion, let me first
inform you about the learning objectives.
II. Informing
learners of the At the end of the lesson, the learner will be able to:
objectives
1. Characterized the different periods of Stone Age
2. Appreciate the contributions of Paleolithic, Mesolithic,
and Neolithic periods
3. Perform a group activity that will show gained
knowledge about the characteristics of each period.

Is that clear with you? Yes Ma’am

III. Stimulating Before we formally start our new lesson for today, let’s
recall of prior have first a quick review of the past lesson that we had.

Excellent! I think you have understood well our previous

topic and you are now ready to grasp the new lesson
today.

IV. Presenting Let us first answer these two motivation questions here, (students are raising
the stimulus anybody from the group? their hands)

Motivation question:
1. What was the great, if not the greatest, discovery of Stone ma’am
early humans?

Exactly!

2. Why was the stone the foundation of early human Because the early
culture? humans used it for
many purposes.

Okay, very good!

Early humans used stone to survive. And now we will be
talking about the Stone Age and The Three periods of
Stone Age.

Everybody, read.

(Students will read

simultaneously)

Explanation
Okay. Humans during Stone Age lived in small, nomadic
groups.

When we say nomadic, they don’t have a permanent

settlement. They move from one place to another
periodically.

Stone Age is known as the period of early humans that

use stones as their primary tools to survive. They made
use of stones to hunt animals for food, and to protect
themselves from wild animals.

For an instance, when they have hunt large mammals

they used stone tools to cut, pound, and crush—making
them better at extracting meat and other nutrients from Yes Ma’am.
animals

Do you understand class?

Now, let’s move on to the focus of our lesson today, which

is the three periods of Stone Age.

And the first period is what we called the Paleolithic period

or the “Old Stone Age”

Everybody read the Paleolithic period.

(students will read
Paleolithic period simultaneously)
Explanation
Okay. Paleolithic period is considered the oldest period. Because it is
Do you have any idea why? distinguished as the
original development
of stone tools

Very Good!

They are the origin of the development of stone tools and

which represents almost the entire period of human
prehistoric technology.

They live in a small bands of nomads with 20-30 humans.

And this is the time when mankind first started hunting and
gathering. During this time, men are the hunters, and
women are the gatherers.

Also at this time, they begin to have rituals and burials.

They buried dead body with its personal possessions. And
Paleolithic people believed in animism or spirits that
controlled their environment and animals around them.

They learned to adapt to the changes of natural changes Yes, Ma’am.

Did you understand the Paleolithic period class? They have

contributed a lot of

Paleolithic people have contributed? fire-making, clothing,
shelter, and medicine.
Okay, very good. Thank you! They started the
invention of tools, and

now.
Okay. Very Good! Thank you

It seems like you really have understood the first period of

Stone Age, let’s now discuss the second period, which is
the Mesolithic period.

Please read the Mesolithic period, everyone.

Mesolithic period

(Students will read

simultaneously)

Explanation:
If Paleo means old, Meso means middle that’s why it is
the period of transition from old stone age to the new
stone age.

Mesolithic people also uses stone as tools but they

invented new tools made of bones. They became less
reliant on large mammals for food, but more on fish.
Domestication is a

process of adapting
culture. Do you have any idea what domestication is? animals and keeping
it as a pet.

Yes, exactly. Thank you!

They used animals as their pet in their houses and in the

farm.

Everybody read.
(Students will read
simultaneously)

Explanation

Okay. Mesolithic people are more advanced than

Paleolithic people. They were able to come up with more
innovations like huts, cemetery, and they were also started
the use of jewelry.

The Mesolithic hunter achieved a greater efficiency than

did the Paleolithic and was able to exploit a wider range of
animal and vegetable food sources.

Class, when we say semi-nomadic, it is when these early

people often had semi-permanent settlements near water
sources and did not move until it was the peak time for
gathering resources in another area. They were more
careful and calculating in their movements and therefore
did not have to be constantly searching for food and
shelter.

They also started to have diet and it became more varied

as their ability to read the signs of nature and develop Yes Ma’am
technology increased their success in obtaining food.
With that, do you agree that Mesolithic people made an Ma’am, they

bow and arrows.

Ma’am, they began to

Very good. Thank you!

Another answer?

Okay. Very good. Thank you!

It seems like you understand the Mesolithic Period. Am I

right?

Great, if that so, let’s discuss the last period which is the
Neolithic period.

Everybody, read.

(Students will read

simultaneously)

Explanation
Okay class, always remember, Paleo means old, Meso
means middle, and Neo means new and this is the final
period of Stone Age.

Neolithic period is where the Agricultural revolution

happened which transform human societies from nomadic
hunter-gatherers to sedentary farmers. Meaning to say the
rise of farming started during Neolithic period.

They are no longer nomadic people, they live in just one

place and build villages. They could also produce more
food and larger populations.
They invented plow and sickle which they used for plowing
and harvesting their crops. And one of the most important
tools was the hand mill which they used to grind grains.

And class one of their milestones was the invention of

wheel that made agricultural task much easier

Yes, Ma’am

Everybody read.
Explanation

Neolithic people are also known as craftsman as they

made pottery and ceramics.

Also, class, they began weaving because of their invention

of loom and thanks to this, they were able to manage their
first sail which helps them to navigate the sea.

New forms of art also emerged such as cave paintings

and figurines which expressed religious beliefs and
cultural identity. They also established megalithic
structures that have been used as burial and worship
sites.

Villages of Neolithic period grow bigger and bigger and

people started to used metal tools in their everyday tasks.

And, the use of metal tools marked the end of Stone age
and the beginning of the age of metals.

Did you understand class?

Okay great!

V. Providing I have here a set of pictures that will show the life of each
learner period, and I want all of you to look and observe so you
guidance can picture out how their lives have been.

Yes, Ma’am
Is that clear?
First, we have the Paleolithic period.

Yes Ma’am

Ma’am, the pictures

show that they live on
a cave

Ma’am, it shows that

they use fire as they
light.

Ma’am, one of the

picture shows that
their source of food is
through hunting large
mammals, also, I
observed that they
paint on the cave.
Class, did you see on the pictures how the lives of
Paleolithic people have been?
Yes, Ma’am
Okay, can you tell me, how it was?

Alright, very good! Thank you!

What else?

Okay,very good! Thank you!

What else did you observe?

Okay, very good! Thank you!

I’m glad that you really observe the pictures and you were
able to interpret it.

Give yourself a good job clap

Now, let’s see another set of pictures that would tell us

how the lives of Mesolithic people have been.

Are you ready?

Okay class, can you share what did you observe on the
picture?
That’s correct. Very good! Thank you!

Another observation?

Yes, correct. Very good! Thank you!

What else did you observe?

Okay. Very good! Thank you!

Very good class, you really observed the pictures and you Ma’am, I observed
were able to picture out the lives of Mesolithic people. Am that they are no

lives of Neolithic people. Are you now ready? they are making boat.

Ma’am, they also

used bow and arrow,
and bones as their
tools. Also ma’am,
they did fishing.

Yes, Ma’am
(Students will do the
clap)

Yes, Ma’am
Okay class, after I show you the pictures of Paleolithic
people, can you share to the class what did you observe?

Yes, correct. They are making metals because they use it

as their new tools.

What else did you observe?

Yes, very good! Thank you!

Another observation?

Correct. Very good! Thank you!

What else?

That’s correct. Very good! Thank you!

Their tools are more advanced than those with Paleolithic

and Mesolithic people.

What else did you observe?

Alright, that’s correct. Very good. Thank you!

I’m glad that you were able to observe the pictures and
visualize the lives of Paleolithic people.
Very good class! With that, give yourself “Ang galing clap”

Ma’am, I observed on
one picture that they
are making metals.

Ma’am, they also use

the wheel and sickle
in harvesting their
crops.

Ma’am, I observed
that their population
grew and they live in
a village.

Ma’am, I observed
that their tools are not
just made of stone.
They are way more
advanced.

Ma’am, they also

used the sickle and
hand mill that were
still being used today.
(Students will do the
clap)

VI. Eliciting Now that I finished discussing the topic, and you were
performance able to answer my questions a while ago. I am expecting
that you really gain knowledge from it because based from
your facial expressions, it seems that you have
understood the lesson. Am I right? Yes, Ma’am

Okay, very good. And because of that, we will be having a

group activity.

You will be given 10 minutes to accomplish your task.

“Group Work”

Direction:
A. Group yourselves into three (3) groups.
B. Choose one representative to pick a piece of paper (Students will discuss
containing the assigned activity. and prepare with their
C. Discuss the picked item to the group. Each group is peers)

assigned task.
D. Your classmate will be the first evaluator of your
performance. Each group will give their evaluation to their
designated group that will be evaluated and they may
create their own rubrics. This is to assess if everyone
understand the lesson well.
