Introduction

Alcohol is a drug that classed as a depressant, meaning that it slow

down vital function resulting in shirred speech unsteady movement and

inability to react quickly. As for how it affects the mind, it is best

understood as a drug that reduces a person’s ability to think

rationally and distorts her or his judgement.

Although classified as a depressant the amount of alcohol

consumed determines the type of effect. Most people drink for the

stimulant effect, such as beer or glass of wine taken to “loosen up”.

But if a person consumes more than the body can handle, they then

experience alcohol’s depressant effect (inability to feel pain,

toxicity where the body vomits the poison, and finally unconsciousness

or, worse coma or death from severe toxic overdose). Their reaction

depends on how much consumed and how quickly. There are different

kinds of alcohol. Ethyl alcohol (ethanol), the only alcohol used in

beverages, is produced by the fermentation of grains and fruits.

Fermenting is chemical process whereby yeast acts upon certain

ingredients in the food creating alcohol.

Throughout the 10 thousand or so years that humans have been

drinking fermented beverages, they are also been arguing about their

merits and the demerits. The debate still simmers today, with a lively

back and forth over whether alcohol is good for you or bad for you. It

is safe to say that alcohol is both a toxic and a poison. The

deference lies mostly in dost. Moderate drinking seems to be a good

for the heart in circulatory system and probably protect against type
2 diabetes and gallstones. Heavy drinking a major cause of preventable

death in most counties.in the USA alcohol is implicated in about half

of fatal traffic accidents. Heavy drinking can damage the level and

the heart harm and inborn child increase the chances of developing

breast and some other cancers, contribute to depression and violence,

and interfere with relationships.

Alcohol’s two-face nature shouldn’t come as a surprise. The

active ingredients in the alcoholic beverages, is simple molecule

called methanol, affects the body in many different ways it directly

influences the stomach, brain, heart, gallbladder, and liver. It

affects the level of lipids (cholesterol and triglycerides) and

insulin in the blood, as well as inflammation and coagulation. It also

alters mood, concentration and coordination. If all drinkers limited

of themselves to single drinks a day, we probably wouldn’t need a many

cardiologist, lever specialist, metal health professionals, and

substance abuse counsellors. But not everyone who likes to drink

alcohol stops as just once. While most people drink in moderation,

some don’t. (Harvard study)
