KEY CONCEPTS:

 Electric charge is a property of matter that exists because of the excess or deficiency of
electrons. Charging can be achieved by friction, conduction, and induction.
 Charging by Friction is when two materials are rubbed together, some electrons may be
transferred from one material to the other, leaving them both with a net electric charge.
 Charging by conduction involves the contact of a charged object to a neutral object
 Charging by induction creates a temporary and opposite charge in that other object with no
contact
 Insulators do not conduct very well, while conductors. Metals are good conductors, while
materials such as wood, glass, plastics, and rubber are good insulators
