Organic

Compounds
01

An organic compound is a member of a class of

chemicals containing carbon atoms bound to one
another and other atoms by covalent bonds and
found in the cells of living organisms.

What is meant by organic compounds?

Organic compound is of a large class of chemical

compounds in which one or more carbon atoms are
covalently paired with other elements atoms, most
commonly hydrogen, oxygen, or nitrogen.
FOUR MAIN
TYPES OF
COMPOUNDS
HYDROCARBON
A hydrocarbon is an organic compound
consisting of hydrogen and carbon
found in crude oil, natural gas, and coal.
Hydrocarbons are highly combustible
and the main energy source of the
world.
What Are the Types
of Hydrocarbons?

There are two types of hydrocarbons:

aliphatic and aromatic. The three types of
aliphatic hydrocarbons are alkanes,
alkenes, and alkynes. Aromatic
hydrocarbons include benzene.
EXAMPLE OF
HYDROCARBON

A compound made up of hydrogen and

carbon only is called a hydrocarbon. For
example methane (CH4), ethane (C2H6),
ethene (C2H4), and ethyne (C2H2), all are
hydrocarbons as they are made up of only
two elements: carbon and hydrogen.
WHAT COMMON
MATERIALS USE IN
HYDROCARBONS

Hydrocarbons include baby oil, mineral

oil, household lubricating oil, lamp oil,
torch fuel, lighter fluid, gasoline,
kerosene, motor oil, heating oil, hair oil,
and some kinds of furniture polish
