Why is effective communication considered a fundamental skill to have in the workplace and
in life?

1. Safety
In the workplace, having good communication with your team is good in terms of safety.
If there is a hazard at work, or there is an issue with someone, being able to communicate with
your team is crucial to ensuring that each shift you attend is safe and comfortable for everyone.

2. Strong Bonds and Relationships

Good communication is good for building strong bonds and relationships at work. In my
opinion, having good relationships with your co-workers is important within a workplace
because it can really make a difference in your quality of work. At my current job, I am close
with all my co-workers and that has impacted the way I feel and perform at work. It’s nice
having a strong bond with my co-workers because that helps when we all come together to
come up with an idea or solution. If I need help with something, I know I can trust their advice
and opinions to get things done.

3. Maintaining Mental Health

Having good communication in general is very important when building and maintaining your
mental health. Life can get hard, so it is important to share with those you trust

4. Teamwork
Through the exercises we did in class, it showed that communicating with your team is a good
way to demonstrate teamwork. When we played the Escape the Bomb game, it was quite
tricky, but by working together and listening to everyone's opinions and facts, we managed to
pass all the levels. Everyone would throw in their ideas, and we would all listen and contribute
our own to come up with the final answer.
5. Leadership
When working in a group, there may be someone who will take charge of helping keep
things organized and controlled if there are a lot of opinions being thrown out. When we were
doing the exercise with the string and the nails, my group was at a loss and was unsure of what
to do and how to get started. Luckily, someone took the leadership position to help start things
up and then soon after we all shared our ideas on how to make it work.

6. Clear Message
Being able to confidently communicate with others can help ensure there are no
misunderstandings when relaying a message. It is important for safety and making sure you
correctly communicate something to someone else if you’re wanting something done and you
want it done right.
