ASSIGNMENT:

1.) An aqueous solution contains 684 g sucrose (C 12H22O11) in 1500 g of water.

Kb of water = 0.512 0C/m
a. What is the molality of this solution?
b. How much is the boiling point elevation in Celsius degrees?
c. What is the boiling temperature of this solution?

2.) Ethylene glycol (CH2OHCH2OH) is used as an antifreeze in cars. Calculate the freezing point
of a solution of ethylene glycol containing 651 g of this substance in 2505 g of water.
Kf of water = 1.860C/m

3.) Assuming Raoult’s law, calculate the vapor pressure of a solution of 60 g of glucose
(C6H12O6) in 200 g of water at 25.0°C. The vapor pressure of water is 23.8 torr.

4.) 55.0 g of table salt is dissolved in one litre of water. At a temperature of 27 0C, what would
be the osmotic temperature of this solution? van’t Hoff factor of table salt is 2.
