or Eligible Content volume, mass, and length of objects.
Eligible Content - M03.D-M.1.2.3 Use a ruler to measure lengths
to the nearest quarter inch or centimeter.
Lesson Objectives -The student will be able to measure varying lengths given to
them to the nearest quarter inch.
Materials -Rulers

Planning for Learners Differentiation: Specific students will work with a partner in-
stead of working alone when participating in the activity. The
partner will be chosen by me and depend on math level and abili-
ties.
Lesson Presentation

Introduction -To begin, we will review measuring to the nearest quarter inch
on a number line.
-I will give students multiple different examples of line segments
on the board, and I will plot a specific point in the number line.
-I will have students hold up their boards and tell me the mea-
surement of the line.
-We will repeat several times.

Sequence of activities -I will then explain that around the room, I have placed many
including assess- different line segments with different points. Each line has a
ments number on the top.
-Students will take a piece of paper around the room and mea-
sure each line with the ruler that I give to them.
-They will number their paper and work around the room to mea-
sure. They are not required to measure the lines in order of what
they are numbered.
-After each student has measured each line, I will have them
come back to their desks.
-I will then explain to them that I will give them each a partner.
They will both bring their papers that they wrote their measure-
ments on and check to see if they both have the same measure-
ment.
-If they do, they may put a checkmark beside that answer. If they
have a different answer than their partner, they both must go
back to that line and re-measure it to check which answer is
right.
-Once they both check the line again, they fix their answer.
-I will set a timer of 10-15 minutes for this to occur.

Lesson Wrap-up -I will call students back to their seats. We will then go through
each measurement together and I will give them the correct an-
swer for each. I will be collecting assessing students’s papers for
accuracy after we have gone over them as a class.
