Course Title: ADVANCED PHILOSOPHY OF EDUCATION        Course No. 9021
Professor: JOCELYN C. JIMENEZ, Ed.D

Topic Title:The Tested Curriculum and the Changing View of Assessment

The curriculum that is tested comprises of the portions of it that are covered by national achievement tests
with benchmarks, state exams with standards, and tests created by teachers. To determine what information or abilities
are known, assessment—typically through standard testing—usually takes place initially or should be the first step. At
this point, we turn to the curriculum for guidance on what needs to be taught based on what we now know about the
learner's requirements.
In the teaching profession, assessment techniques are essential. They provide essential information about the
effectiveness of a lesson, unit, or curriculum in addition to serving as examples of what the students have learnt. Many
evaluation techniques must be used to determine pupil understanding. Students that take part in the evaluation process
can see how their knowledge has grown, which motivates them and makes them proud to keep learning.
An essential component of curriculum evaluation is student assessment, which aids in assessing the effects
and results of educational initiatives. The standard of student learning is a key indicator of any curriculum's
effectiveness.
In the classroom, assessments can be diagnostic, formative, or summative. A quiz to find out each student's
preferred learning style could be given at the beginning of the lesson. A diagnostic evaluation is helpful in these
situations. It's crucial to routinely evaluate our students using a variety of assessment techniques in order to track their
progress.
