Title: Planets
Relevant SC Standards:
4.E.3A.1 – Develop and use models of Earth’s solar system to exemplify the location and
order of the planets as they orbit the sun and the main composition (rock or gas) of the
planets.
4.3.3 – The student will demonstrate an understanding of the locations, movements, and
patterns of stars and objects in the solar system.
4.E.3B – Earth orbits around the sun and the moon orbits around earth. These movements
together with the rotation of earth on a tilted axis result in patterns that can be observed
and predicted.
Description: This app lesson will develop fourth grade students’ solar system understanding and
knowledge.
Instructional Objective: Students will be able to understand how solar systems work and
identify different planets and provide information regarding a selected planet.
Step 1 Content-Based or Skill-Based App: Students will open up Padlet and add posts to my
previously created board titled “What do you know about planets already”
https://apps.apple.com/us/app/padlet/id834618886
Step 2 Content-Based or Skill-Based App: Students will use the app called A Solar System
Journey to explore the solar system and read about planets. From this app, students will make
their decision as to which planet they’d like to present to the class

Step 3 Students will create a presentation using Google Slides. They will take the information
they collected from their classmates on padlet and the solar system app to compile information
into their presentation.
