SESSION GUIDE

Session 4: Ready, Get Set, GOAL (Career Goal Setting)

Duration of Two hours and a half


Session

Goal- an aim or desired result.


Key -a target that someone is trying to reach or achieve.
Understandings
to be developed Goal-Setting- is the process of taking active steps to achieve desired
outcomes.

Short-term goal- is something you want to do in the near future. The near
future can mean today, this week, this month, or even this year. A short-
term goal, something you want to accomplish soon.

Long-term goal-is something you want to accomplish in the future. Long


term goals require time and planning. Long-term goals are not something
you can do this week or even this year. Long-term goals are usually at least
several years away.

Career- a job or profession that you have been trained for, and which you
do for a long period

Learning Terminal Objective:


Objectives
At the end of the two-and-a-half-hour session, Regional Office personnel
shall be able to craft career goals based on essentials of career goals
settings in DepEd.

Enabling Objectives:

At the end of the session, the participants shall be able to:

1. Differentiate between short-term and long-term career goals;

2. Craft short-term and long-term goals; and

3. Appreciate the importance of career goal setting.

DEAR FUTURE ME

The facilitator instructs the participants to accomplish the “Dear Future Me”
worksheet and answer the following questions:
Activity
1. In terms of your career, who are you today?
(35mins.)
2. Is your current position the career you want to have?

3. How do you see yourself in 3 years?

4. How do you see yourself in 5 years?

Analysis The facilitator asks the following questions:

(30mins.) 1. How did you feel while doing the activity?

2. What part of your vision, mission and values are related to your
career?

3. What are your realizations after doing the activity?

Abstraction/ Do: The facilitator makes a short discussion on the key concepts

Generalization Say: Defining career goals is just half the battle. An individual must set
their mind on accomplishing the goals he or she has set. However, if one
(40mins.) doesn’t develop or map out their goals properly, it will be harder to achieve
them.

Do: Discuss on the Definition of Career Goal

Say: As Martin Luther King, Jr. once said, “You don't have to see the whole
staircase, just take the first step.”

Do: Discuss on the difference between Short-term and Long-term


Goals

Say: When setting career goals, an individual should ensure that they meet
the following criteria:

Do: Discuss the topic “How to Set career Goals”

Closing Statement, say: A career goal is all about setting short-term and
long-term objectives related to one’s career path. Setting career goals is
important, as it helps propel individuals to accomplish them.

Application The facilitator instructs the participants to craft their short-term and long-
term goals through a road map template provided.

Concluding Say:
