Introductory Message
For the facilitator:
This learning resource hopes to engage the learners into guided and
independent learning activities at their own pace and time. Furthermore,
this also aims to help learners acquire the needed 21st century skills
while taking into consideration their needs and circumstances.
In addition to the material in the main text, you will also see this box in
the body of the module:
As a facilitator you are expected to orient the learners on how to use this
module. You also need to keep track of the learners' progress while
allowing them to manage their own learning. Furthermore, you are
expected to encourage and assist the learners as they do the tasks
included in the module.
The hand is one of the most symbolized part of the human body. It is
often used to depict skill, action and purpose. Through our hands we may
learn, create and accomplish. Hence, the hand in this learning resource
signifies that you as a learner is capable and empowered to successfully
achieve the relevant competencies and skills at your own pace and time.
Your academic success lies in your own hands!
This module was designed to provide you with fun and meaningful
opportunities for guided and independent learning at your own pace and
4
time. You will be enabled to process the contents of the learning resource
while being an active learner.
What I Need to Know This will give you an idea of the skills
or competencies you are expected to
learn in the module.

At the end
Assessment This is a task which aims to evaluate
of this
your level of mastery in achieving the
learning competency.
1. Use the module with care. Do not put unnecessary mark/s on any
part of the module. Use a separate sheet of paper in answering the
exercises.
6. Return this module to your teacher/facilitator once you are through with
it.
This module was designed and written with you in mind. It is here to help
you master the nature of Physics. The scope of this module permits it to
be used in many different learning situations. The language used
recognizes the diverse vocabulary level of students. The lessons are
arranged to follow the standard sequence of the course. But the order in
which you read them can be changed to correspond with the textbook
you are now using.

Ohm’s Law
Real-life applications of Ohm’s law ranges from simple appliances like conventional electric
fans, electric heaters, electric kettles and irons to the high tension wires and massive projects like
rockets.
What’s In
The aim of the lesson is to help you understand the relationships of voltage, current and
resistance. At this moment, you should be skillful enough in manipulating formulas to solve for an
unknown variable. Also, you should be aware on the different units of measurement for each variable in
Ohm’s Law.
What’s New
In order to understand Ohm’s law, we should be able to describe current, voltage and resistance
and their standard units of measurement.
The relationship between Voltage, Current and Resistance in any DC electrical circuit was firstly
discovered by the German physicist Georg Simon Ohm. Ohm found that, at a constant temperature, the
electrical current flowing through a fixed linear resistance is directly proportional to the voltage applied
across it, and also inversely proportional to the resistance.

V Voltage
I=
R Resistance
Current
This law is the most fundamental relation in the analysis of electrical circuit. It connects the
relationship of the quantities of voltage, electric current and resistance in one easy-to-use equation
above.
Rearrange the terms in order to solve the equation for a specific unit of measurement.
I=V/R
V=IR
R=V/I
V = IR
V I = V/R
R = V/I
I R
Sample Problem 1
You have a circuit with a source voltage of 12 V and a resistance of 15 Ω. What is the current in
the circuit?
Solution:
I = V/R
I = 12 V/15 Ω
I = 0.8 A
Sample Problem 2
I = 3A
Formula : V = IR
Solution : V= (3 A) (9 Ω)
V = 27 V
Sample Problem 3
A circuit has a 24 V voltage supply and a current of 11 A runs through it. What is the
resistance?
Given: V = 24 V Unknown: R = ?
I = 11 A
Formula : R = V/I
R = 24 V/11A
R = 2.18 Ω
What’s More
3. What is the resistance of a circuit with three 1.5V batteries and running at a
current of 5A?
4. How much current is flowing through a circuit that has 120 V and presents 5 Ω resistance?
