1. Why do you think Lyiscott chose a spoken-word essay as her medium?

Because she wanted to catch the attention of the audience, involve critical thinking, and
describe the emotions what she experienced.

2. How does watching and listening to her performance (versus reading words on a page)
change the way you understand her message?
If it was just written on paper and read ourselves, then we won’t feel the engagement
from the speaker. Since we listened/ watched her performance either digitally or in
person, we could feel the emotions, and see a bit of action from the speaker.

3. Why do you think Lyiscott chose to mix dialects?

Because she was demonstrating to the audience how she was talking to other people in
the real world. Since she was mixing dialects, it sounded more realistic as if the audience
was there with her during that scenario. She also mentioned that she was articulate.

4. How would it change her message if she chose just one dialect instead of mixing
several?
If she only stuck with one dialect, then the audience would find the speech unattractive
and hardly understandable since there is no change of tone.
