Basketball 
began with its invention in 1891 quadriceps muscle or violent quadriceps
in Springfield, Massachusetts, by Canadian
physical education instructor James
Naismith as a less injury-prone sport than
football. Naismith was a 31-year old
graduate student when he created the
indoor sport to keep athletes indoors during
the winters.[1] The game became
established fairly quickly and grew very
popular as the 20th century progressed,
first in America and then in other parts of
the world. After basketball became
established in American colleges, the
professional game followed. The
American National Basketball
Association (NBA), established in 1946,
grew to a multibillion-dollar enterprise by
the end of the century, and basketball
became an integral part of American
culture.
Dr. James Naismith is known world-wide as
the inventor of basketball. He was born in
1861 in Ramsay township, near Almonte,
Ontario, Canada. The concept of basketball
was born from Naismith's school days in the
area where he played a simple child's game
known as duck-on-a-rock outside his one-
room schoolhouse, James Naismith moved
on to the YMCA Training School in
Springfield, Massachusetts, USA in 1891,
where the sport of basketball was born.
Shooting, dribbling, defending, rebounding,
and passing are among the most significant
abilities in the game of basketball. Aside
from these basketball-specific talents,
agility, acrobatic ability, speed, and
endurance are all valuable assets in the
game.

Backboard is a piece of basketball equipment.
It is a raised vertical board with an attached
basket consisting of a net! suspended from a
hoop. It is made of a flat, rigid piece of, often
Plexiglas or tempered glass which also has the
properties of safety glass when accidentally
shattered.
A basketball ball is a spherical ball used in
basketball games. Basketballs usually range in
size from very small promotional items that are
only a few inches (some centimeters) in
diameter to extra large balls nearly 2 feet (60
cm) in diameter used in training exercises
The modern basketball hoop consists of a net
dangling from a metal rim, which is connected
to a backboard. That backboard is then
connected to another surface to keep the hoop
10 feet above the playing surface. The NBA
has a strict set of rules regarding its hoops.
In basketball, the basketball court is the playing
surface, consisting of a rectangular floor, with
baskets at each end. Indoor basketball courts
are almost always made of polished wood,
usually maple, with 3.048 metres-high rims on
each basket.

HOW TO PLAY BASKETBALL
Originally invented as a way of keeping students
busy during the cold winter months, basketball was
invented by James Naismith in 1891.[1] The first
game was played by shooting a ball into a peach
basket nailed to a railing, and the ball had to be
 retrieved with a long dowel after each successful
shot. [2] Fast-forward through the decades and
names like Jordan, Shaq, Kobe, and LeBron are
almost immortal. Basketball is one of the most
entertaining, challenging, and exciting sports in the
world. You can learn the basic rules and the
fundamental skills necessary to play.
The ball is tossed in the air to start the
game. One of the players deflects it to a
teammate. It is dribbled and passed among
the teammates to protect the ball and to
make a goal. The basket or the hoop is
placed horizontally at the height of 10 feet
on a back board. Each team tries to protect
the goal on their side while trying to make a
goal on the opponent's side of the court.
The opposite team tries to get the ball, take
control of it while bouncing and tries to grab
it while it is passed among the team mates
to prevent a goal. When a player commits a
foul, the other team gets a chance of free
throw or to inbound the ball. Each goal
carries two points and each free throw one
point. The team with higher score wins the
game. Players may be substituted when a
substitute asks for it.

How do you score at basketball? The core
objective in a basketball game is to score
points by putting the ball inside the hoop
(basket) and to prevent the opposing team
from doing the same. A basketball game starts
at the centre of the court when the ball is
thrown high up by the referee and one player
from each team competing to gain possession.

THREE POINTS
Teams under the limit are commonly referred
to as having fouls to give, and thus they can try
to disrupt their opponents without being
penalized free throws. These fouls reset every

A 2-pointer in basketball is a shot scored
anywhere inside the three-point arch. This
includes the paint, midrange and at the rim. All
of these shots count for two points, unless
taken from the free-throw line for a foul shot.
 FREE THROW
In basketball, free throws or foul shots are
unopposed attempts to score points by
shooting from behind the free-throw line, a line
situated at the end of the restricted area. Free
throws are generally awarded after a foul on

the shooter by the opposing team, analogous
to penalty shots in other team sports.
 BONUS
In the sport of basketball, the bonus situation
(also called the penalty situation) occurs when
one team accumulates a requisite number of
fouls, which number varies depending on the
level of play. When one team has committed
the requisite number of fouls, each subsequent
foul results in the opposing team's taking free
throws regardless of the type of foul committed
(i.e., whether or not the foul was a shooting
foul).

10. James Yap Yap
was a lethal scorer who had a plethora of
moves at his disposal. Combine this with his
large hands and he left defenders flustered.
Eventually, he learned to be a solid defender.
Yap was as clutch as they came and sank
many memorable game-winners.
9. Junemar Fajardo Fajardo
is the one player on this list who can rapidly
move up the ranks. The PBA has seen its fair
share of giants, but none have been nearly as
complete as Fajardo. Standing at an imposing
6'10, 278 pounds, Fajardo was on the radar
despite not playing for one of the traditional
collegiate powerhouses.
8. Allan Caidic
When someone is called "The Triggerman,"
you know they are a lights out shooter. Caidic
is the greatest Filipino sharpshooter of all time.
In one game, he somehow managed to go 17-
of- 27 from deep. He once held the record for
most 3-point shots converted at 1,242. His
reputation as a marksman reached overseas,
as he was a staple on the national team.
7. Johnny Abarrientos
The "Flying A" had a real shot of being the first
Filipino to play in the NBA, specifically for the
Charlotte Hornets. Despite his small stature, he
had everything you looked for in a point guard.
He was a natural playmaker, but at the same
time can create his own shot and was a pest
on defense. As expected, he had a high
basketball IQ.
6. Ricardo Brown California produces more
PBA players than any other place. This may
not be so surprising due to the state's
basketball culture and population size, but it is
thousands of miles away from the Philippines.
Brown helped pave the way for Filipino-
American players to enter the league. He had
some of the best handles anyone had ever
seen in PH basketball, a smooth jumper, and
made his teammates look good with his slick
passing. As his moniker "The Quick Brown
Fox" suggests, he was a great athlete, too.
5. Benjie Paras Some first-year players are
classified as day one starters. Paras is the very
essence of this statement, as he is still the only
Filipino player to win rookie of the year and
MVP in the same season. Aptly named the
Tower of Power, Paras carried over his
dominance in the collegiate ranks to the
professional level. His overpowering strength
and athleticism made him a matchup nightmare
for opposing bigs.
4. Alvin Patrimonio
The Captain was the best power forward of his
generation and was an automatic scorer,
regularly demanding double teams. In fact,
Patrimonio was named MVP on four occasions.
He is third all-time in total points scored with
15,091. He was an iron man and once held the
record for most consecutive games played at
596. The record was broken in 2019 by guard
L. A. Tenorio.
3. Bogs Adornado
The three-time MVP changed Philippine
basketball with his shooting prowess. He has
the distinction of being the first league MVP.
While he is best known for his outside shot, he
was also a deadly scorer from the post. These
are what caused him to be the PBA's scoring
champion three times.His signature pump fake
fooled many defenders and is a big reason why
he led the league in free throws made for a
couple of seasons.
2. Ramon Fernandez
Fernandez was a player ahead of his time. He
was a big man who does many of the things
bigs do today. He can handle the ball and
make plays for his team. Fernandez was a
triple-double waiting to happen. He won MVP
honors four times in his long, illustrious career.
His 18,996 career points scored is still the
highest mark in the league and looks to stay
that way for the foreseeable future.

1. Robert Jaworski He is a player whose

legend lives on to this day, decades after his
last professional game. Jaworski was a
lockdown defender so much so that anyone he
covered could be classified as double-teamed.
His tenacity, intelligence, and unusual length
and hand size made this possible.
