III. LESSON PRESENTATION

Life is enjoyable when you’re physically fit. Physical fitness is


indeed important to one’s life. It is an indicator which shows
whether you have the ability to meet, with ease, the ordinary as
well as unusual demands of every demands of everyday life and
you will still have energy left to enjoy your free time. Physical
fitness is a personal responsibility. It implies making a personal effort to stay healthy and active throughout your life.
Staying active keeps your body functioning at a high level. Improvement of physical fitness can be accomplished by
everyone. Some people achieved fitness through different physical activities that you can do to improve your personal
fitness.

Furthermore, this module will help you find ways to improve what you are already doing in improving your personal
fitness by engaging in folk dancing as a physical activity that will be used in redesigning your personal fitness program
that can fit into your life to achieve the goal of developing and maintaining level of physical fitness that allows you to live
fully.

Activity 1: Folk Dancing Questionnaire

Directions: Below is a survey questionnaire that reveals the learners’ personal information about folk dancing. Ask them
to accomplish it by putting a check mark (/) corresponding to their response in each item. Let them use their notebooks
for their answers.

INSTRUCTIONAL ACTIVITIES

Welcome to the first part of your lesson in Folk Dance! In this phase, you will be provided with activities that will
activate your prior knowledge on the lesson. From here, follow-up activities will be given to elicit your tentative
understanding. As you go through the rest of the activities, misconceptions and alternative conceptions you have in
mind will be clarified. Finally, your knowledge, considering its adequacy and relevance, will be assessed at the end of this
phase.

Are you familiar with Philippine Folk Dance? This activity will assess your prior knowledge on Philippine Folk
Dances that we have in the country and their place of origin.

The brief history of Fundamental Dance Position of feet and arms is very important to everybody in folk dancing.
You cannot start teaching folkdance without knowing the fundamental dance position of feet and arms. You execute the
fundamental dance positions of feet and arms without music by following the instructions, and by counting 1, 2, 3 to
every position. It increase muscle memory to execute an accurate, clean and not dangerous jump. Practicing it in all the
five positions of the feet helps the dancer to create a better connection between steps in the center or while performing
on stage.

Learning other Folk Dance


Binasuan is a Filipino folk Dance in which the
performer holds full wine glasses in each hand while
performing balancing tricks.

Itik-Itik is a mimetic folk dance in the

Philippines. It originated in Surigao in Philippines.

Pandango sa Ilaw is a Philippine Folk dance


which originated from Lubang Island, Mindoro.

Sublian – The term “sublian” comes from the term “subli”, which is in turn coined from two
Tagalog words: “subsub” (falling on head) and “Bali” (broken). Sublian dancers therefore appear to
be lame and crooked throughout the dance. Sublian is a ritual dance of the natives of Bauan,
Batangas. It is usually performed during fiestas as a ceremonial worship dance to the town’s
religious icon, the holy cross.
