I. Introductory Concept
Konsepto
In this lesson, you will continue to participate in fitness and dance activities for the
specific purpose of analyzing and assessing their effectivity. Analyzing your daily physical
activity participation is an important component of this lesson.

Philippine Physical Activity Pyramid Revisited

The lowest level of the pyramid is where the lifestyle physical activities are found.
These are the day-to-day tasks and activities that should be done as often as possible –
walking the dog, going up a flight or stairs, or cleaning one’s bedroom. Recreational and
aerobic activities dominate the second lowest level. It is recommended that one should do
these activities 3 to 5 times a week. The third level is the leisure activities and exercises for
strength and flexibility. These should be done 2 to 3 times a week. The top level should be
done minimally or not more than 30 minutes a day. It is true that an individual needs time to
recover from daily stresses and prepare for new challenges, so periods of rest and sleep are
important for good health. However general inactivity or sedentary living is discouraged during
the hours when you are awake.

Fitness Benefits of Dancing

Dancing is a health-enhancing physical activity. Active participation in dance can

provide many health benefits to individuals. Various fitness components are being developed
through active engagement in dance. Some of the fitness indicators of dancing are as follows:
1. It keeps both the body and brain active.
2. It offers a way to improve one’s strength and flexibility, which helps keep muscles
and joints healthy.
3. It allows you to meet new people and make friends with people who have similar
interest.
4. It helps to learn about your body, improve posture and balance.
5. It reduces stress levels.
Aside from fitness benefits of dance, it is also a way to understand our culture.

I. Introductory Concept

It is an instinct that human beings worship gods. Our ancestors found ways to worship
their gods by imitating the movements of nature like birds flying, trees swaying, wind blowing,
rain falling, and even the sun shining. They believed that by doing these moves, they were
blessed.

From imitating the nature’s movements evolved creative dances. Creative dance has
branched out to the dances that we know today. The movements of this dance illustrate
animals and things around us. The aim of the dance performance is to uplift an object of a
region or place.
