Declamation

Guidelines:

1. This competition is open for all bona fide students of all Higher Education Department of
the St. Louise de Marillac College of Sorsogon, Inc.

2. This will be participated by the students from 1st year to 4th year from the five different
courses. Every program must have at least two participants.

3. To become an official participant, interested students must consult the governors of their
respective programs.

4. Only one participant is allowed per program

5. Each program shall have their assigned continental grouping


 Educ: European Literature
 BSHM: Asian Literature
 AB: North American Literature
 BPED: African Literature
 BSBA: South American Literature

6. Participants will be given one week preparation to memorize their chosen piece in line
with their assigned continental grouping per program.

7. Participants are requested to be at the venue at least one hour before the official start of
the contest

8. Participants should wear an appropriate costume ‘fitted’ to the chosen contest piece

9. The participant must deliver the piece within 3-5 minutes. Participants are not permitted
to continue speaking after the timer rang out for five minutes.

10. After the deliberation of the members of the board of judges, the judges’ decision is final.
CRITERIA

Mastery of the piece 50%


Delivery 15%
Stage presence (eye contact, poise, posture) 15%
Audience Rapport 10%
Gestures and emotions 10%

TOTAL 100%

Mastery of the piece: Does the contestant mastered the piece?


Delivery: Student use voice, movement, and expression effectively. Volume of voice should be
appropriate
Stage Presence (eye contact, poise, posture): Professional appearance and body language
should support speech through expressions, posture, and eye contact. Speaker moves
appropriately. Speaker exhibits enthusiasm and confidence.
Audience Rapport: Does the contestant make the thought, feelings spirit of the selection line for
the audience?
Gestures and emotions: Do the gesture seem natural? Do the movements reinforce and
compliment language?
