Experiment No #02

To Verify that the centripetal force is directly proportional to following:

i. Mass of rotating body (m) F ∝ m

ii. Square of rotational speed (n) F ∝ n
iii. Radius of Gyration (r) F ∝ r

Apparatus:

 Centrifugal force apparatus

Centrifugal Force:

According to Newton’s 3rd law of motion, there exists a reaction to the centripetal
force. Centripetal Reaction that pulls the string outward is sometimes called Centrifugal force.

Centrifugal Force Apparatus:

Centrifugal Force Appratus

F∝m

Prove that relation F ∝ m

F=mr ω2

Taking ω & r constant we get,

F∝m

Procedure:

1. Set apparatus.
2. Keep the radius of gyration (r) & speed (n) constant.
3. Take the mass 0.1Kg.
4. Note the error in apparatus.
5. When apparatus is stabilize note the value of force (N).
6. Increase the mass by 0.1Kg & repeat the above procedure.

Observation & Calculations:

While r=0.15m

ω=200 rpm
