Answers
The boys demonstrated a growth mindset by
not letting the fact that they had limited
space stop them from deciding to make their
own wooden pitch afloat on the water.
The community demonstrated a fixed
mindset by first telling the boys to look at
where they live and how they had no room,
then continuing to tell the boys they would
never become champions playing on the
wooden pitch.
The boys continued to demonstrate a growth
mindset by thinking of new plans like taking
their wet boots off so they would be quicker
and never giving up even when they were
down 0-2.
The community started to believe in the boys
as well and they got together to give them
new equipment and to cheer them on. When
the boys lost, the community told them to
still be proud of themselves.
The boys had a positive mindset and so even
though they lost, they were still happy with
everything they had accomplished.

In thinking about the power of one’s
mindset, is there a dream that you have
about something you would like to do? How
might you shift your mindset to “make it
happen”?
I would like to get into UNC Chapel Hill,
and I can shift my mindset into believing that
if I study hard and be a good student, I will
get in.

How do you personally relate the growth
mindset to a hobby or interest you have?
I personally relate the growth mindset to
programming, as whenever I have an error or
things do not go as intended, I think to
myself what I can do to fix and improve it
rather than to give up.
