Lesson Plan in Science Elementary

Grade 6

I. OBJECTIVES

At the end of the lesson, the students will be able to:

1. explain how friction affects the movement of different objects;

2. demonstrate how the movement of moving objects are affected by friction and

3. Infer how friction affects the motion of objects around you.

II. SUBJECT MATTER

Topic: How does frictional force affect people and object

Reference: CG page 93 of 203

Materials: Laptop, Projector, Video clips, Powerpoint Presentation, Pictures

III. PROCEDURE

1. Prayer

2. Greetings

3. Checking of Attendance

4. Review of Previous topic/ Motivation

LESSON PROPER

a. Activity

1. Drill and Review

The teacher conducts a review on the different kinds of force

Question to ask:

 Can you still recall it?

 What do you remember about the previous lesson?

b. Analysis

1. Explore

Activity 1: ‘‘Four pics one word?’’

Skills: Identify, Describing

 Let’s play a game ‘‘Four pics one word?’’

 Show pictures and the students will guess what specific word fits with
theme of the photos presented.
 They have 5 seconds o guess the correct answer
 The pupil who guess the answer correctly will get a prize.

2. FIRM UP

 Friction occurs between the surfaces of two objects of two objects in

contact, rubbing or sliding against one another.
 Friction is a force that opposes an object’s motion resulting in the
slowing down or even stopping the moving object.
 Examples of friction:
. Rubbing hands
. Climbing rocks
. Sliding
. Walking
 The surface area of contact affects friction. Objects with smaller
surface areas, like a ball, are harder to stop; thus, it travels a longer
distance because lesser friction acts on it.
 The bigger or greater the surface area of objects in contact with the
floor the greater the friction
 The smaller surface area of objects in contact with the floor, the
lesser the friction
 Friction is lesser in smooth surface, while friction is bigger in rough
surface
 Objects move faster in smooth surface, Object moves, slower in
rough surface.
c. Abstraction
Watch video clip about Friction.
