Thesis Adviser: Dr. Warren Celoso

This study aims at providing the disposed photocopier powder as an

alternative source of materials for making a stamp pad ink for the most
efficient way to provide much needed source of material that is cleaner and
safetier than the activated stamp pad ink.

Using the recyclable material which is the disposed photo copier

powder we can help our environment for recycling a waste product to a new
product. Recycling makes the environment clean and beautiful that we can
reduce waste product in our environment to conserves natural resources

This study is to utilized an experimental quantitative research design

that the certain experimental research design to its random respondents.
The researchers will survey a 40 college students as a respondents
CHAPTER I

INTRODUCTION

Background of the Study

Ink is a liquid or paste that contains pigments or dyes and is used to

color a surface to produce an image, text, or design. Ink is used for
drawing or writing with a pen, brush, or quill. Thicker inks, in paste
form, are used extensively in letterpress and lithographic printing. Ink
can be a complex medium, composed of solvents, pigments, dyes, resins,
lubricants, particulate matter, and other materials. The components of inks
serve many purposes; the ink’s carrier, colorants, and other additives
control flow and thickness of the ink and its appearance when dry. Many
ancient cultures around the world have independently discovered and
formulated inks for the purposes of writing and drawing.

Ink, as a writing tool, has been around since what is believed to be

one of its original uses in the form of dye as a means of writing on the
inside of caves. They derived this rudimentary form of ink from regional
fruits, vegetables, and minerals. This eventually evolved over hundreds of
years so that both pigments and dyes from fish and animal parts were used
as ink to create symbolic communication, but as ink for fabric on clothing
and other items.

Around 1200 B.C., an inventor from China named Tien-Lcheu created a

black ink for writing by experimenting with pine tree soot and lamp oil. He
then added gelatin to the mixture that was made from the skin of a donkey
with some addition of musk. All these ingredients created the first black
writing ink that became very popular in China and the surrounding area. So
much so that some tried to improve on the formula by substituting natural
dyes and colors from plants and minerals. This included salt, gum, and
nutgalls. This became the standard ink formula of that time. Egyptians had
also created their own form of ink around 2500 B.C. by blending a mixture
of carbon and gum to create it. Once formulated, it was dried in the shape
of sticks. Once thoroughly dry, the sticks were dipped into water and
readied for use on papyrus paper.
Typically the ink used in the most are made from synthetic materials
like petroleum and solvent. These kinds of materials are hazardous
especially to the health of the user and to the environment as well.

As been made into dyes, disposed photo copier powder can be an

alternative ingredient for making stamp pad ink instead of petroleum. In
today modern world almost every product has been commercialized and people
sought for products that are more natural and cheaper instead

The creation of ink with alternative ingredient to be commercialized

is a demand for the artist, calligraphers as well as for the people. The
researchers thinks that the disposed photo copier has a great potentials in
having an alternative permanent stamp pad ink due to its strong tanning
color. The researchers decide to test its effectiveness as an ingredient for
stamp pad ink.

The researcher intends to address the useful of stamp pad ink in the
different ways. Intend to this study was formulated and put existence to
meet their satisfaction.

Objectives of the Study

This study aimed to utilize the stamp pad ink from disposed photo copier
powder. Specifically, it aimed to:

1. Determine the qualities of stamp pad ink from disposed photo copier
powder in terms of appearance, color, quality, and texture.

2. Determine the acceptability of disposed photo copier powder as an

alternative material for making stamp pad ink in terms of sensory
qualities.

3. To find out if there is a significant difference in the sensory

qualities of stamp pad ink from disposed photo copier powder in terms of
appearance, color and texture.

4. Find out if there is significant difference in the general acceptability

of the product in terms of sensory qualities.

5. Determine the shelf life of the product in terms of room temperature and
chilling temperature.
Hypothesis of the Study

1. There is significant difference in the stamp pad ink in terms of

appearance, color, quality and texture.

2. There is significant difference in the acceptability of stamp pad ink

among the products in terms of sensory qualities.

Significance of the study

The significant of this study was most valuable to the following.

Users. This study would be beneficial to the users of stamp pad ink. This
study provides many advantages to them such as they would have a more
natural and cheaper way of having an ink for there market.

Architectural students. The result of this study will give additional idea
and valuable information to them. A new product will provide more choices
for them to select or cooking and serve not only delicious one but also
nutritious.

Entrepreneurs. Entrepreneurs will have an additional new product for an

assurance of profit.

Environment. This study will help replenish the waste product to produce
new

Teachers. The result of this study will provide additional new knowledge
and acquire new techniques in the utilization of stamp pad ink for the
production of low cost and very affordable.

Future Researchers. This study will contribute future researchers for the
improvement, development and produce another product using stamp pad ink
from disposed photo copier powder.

Scope and Limitations of the Study

This study aimed to test the effectiveness of disposed photo copier

powder to produce permanent stamp pad ink. This study limits its coverage
on the discussion of stamp pad ink production, chemical testing of the
sample ink from disposed photo copier powder and the impact of stamp pad
ink in the environment. This study focused on testing its effectiveness in
terms of absorption, stick consistency and color including its
acceptability in terms of color, odor, absurption and rate of evaporation.

Out of an thousand students of Capiz State University Main Campus fourty of

them are chosen as respondents to test the acceptability of disposed photo
copier powder as a main ingredient for permanent stamp pad ink. This study
was conducted at Capiz State University- Main Campus for the school year
2019-2020
