INTRODUCTION

Background of the study

Improper waste disposal can have negative impact/effect on health, for instance by
contaminating the water, soil, or air. Direct injury to trash employees, or other participants of
waste burning, and nearby population can result from hazardous waste, improper waste
treatment methods like burning. Improper waste disposal that has negative effect in the
environment. It includes lettering hazardous waste that is dump into the ground, and not
recycling items that should be recycled. Improper waste disposal is a contribution to excess
gases entering the atmosphere and causing this problem. The breakdown of the waste release
gases like methane; which is major factor in global climate change. Improper waste disposal
directly contributes to global warming and climate change through emission from the
decomposition and or burning waste.
Statement of the problem

METHODOLOGY

This chapter discusses the research design, sampling techniques, data gathering instrument,
data gathering procedure, locale of the study, respondents of the study and data gathering
techniques.

Research Design

Descriptive Research Design was used in the study. This research design discussed and
described the negative effect of improper waste disposal in Senior High School Student of
Senator Ninoy Aquino, National High School.

Sampling Techniques

A probability sampling technique was used in the study. It involves random selection of
respondents, allowing the research to make strong statistical inferences about the whole group.
This sampling technique will be used considering that not all Senior High School Students
experienced improper waste disposal.

Data Gathering Instrument

The research instrument used in the study was a researcher-made questionnaire. The
questionnaire contains ten items that asks information about the negative effects of improper
waste disposal.

Data Gathering Procedure

The researchers first of all send a letter to the school principal and the advisers through the
research adviser asking for approval. After obtaining the permission, the researchers introduced
themselves to the Senior High School students and stated their purpose. The respondents of
the study were given one survey questionnaire. The researcher assisted the respondents in
answering the questionnaire.

Locale of the Study

The Senator Ninoy Aquino National High School is located at Lorenzo Diffuntorum Avenue,
Purok Sampaguita, Barangay Kulaman, Senator NIinoy Aquino, Sultan Kudarat. The school offers
a Junior High School and Senior High School with four strands; like Humanities and Social
Sciences (HUMSS), Electrical Installation and Management (EIM), General Academic Strand
(GAS), and Technical, Vocational and Livelihood (TVL).

Respondents of the Study

Data Gathering Techniques

The research was done by answering a Ten (10) items researcher-made questionnaire. The
researchers and respondents were wearing facemask to avoid the transmission of the Covid-19
virus.

The study observed the RA 10173 known as Data Privacy Law. The respondents were asked
their permission about the study to be conducted by the researchers. The information gathered
from the respondents were considered confidential. Their names were not shown in the paper
submitted to the school.

Review of Related Literature and Studies

This chapter presented an overview of some related studies that are,

Conceptual Literature

This research shows the related concept, definition and classifications about solid
waste management and composting

According to Yakamik Mahalakshmi and Valli Manickam from research gate. (Dec 2017).”
Without An effective efficient waste management program, the waste generated from various
human ‘both industrial and domestic, can result in health hazard and have a negative impact
in environment. An effective and efficient waste program is a way for an area to have a clean
and safe environment. the researcher has formulated a way to accomplish the aim of Yakamik
Mahalakshmi and Valli Manick man.

Treatment and disposal methods depends on the type of problem that any community
has. Respondents or any responsible citizen of the community are able to conduct an
appropriate solution for the sake of their environment. Base on their research, it is also said
that various human activities can result a negative impact that can also cause health hazard to
the resident. Proper discipline and awareness of resident is needed. Nowadays, the main
problem of everybody about solid waste management is lack of discipline of some people, that
causes growing rate of garbage problem that also affect air pollution, water and soil
contamination, floods and excessive breeding of rodents and vermin.

However, Taguto, Francoso, Viera (2017), ``Biodegradable materials are substituting the
conventional materials in many different applications. Among these, an important class is the
biodegradable polymers, also known as ecofriendly polymers main due there to ability to erode
fast by composting without any toxic effect ``Solid waste management can be done in different
eco-friendly ways. Some of these are: Creating less waste through reusing, rehoming for waste
removal and refining footprints example is using plastic bags from mall and using it again
instead of throwing it away, as was a plastic cup that can be use is facing as pots of plants or
people called try and sell the reusables ’products. Another way of composting as waste can be
put in compost pit well dispose, and eventually turn into fertilizer. Also, food waste can be fed
to harm animals like cows, pigs, goats rather than throwing it.

Related Studies

Improper waste disposal is one of the existing problems that the Philippine is facing right
now with difficult as humans are the root of this problem. There are several studies conducted
throughout the past years that deduce the importance of proper waste disposal in the
community, environment, and health of the resident.

According to Kylie Tumala (January 2015) from her study in the effect of improper waste
disposal in the Philippines ‘’Improper waste disposal is one of the biggest environmental issues
here in the Philippines. It causes bigger problems that affect not only the environment but also
the heath and life of the people. This problem may be resolve or it well remain to the country in
the next few years ‘’. A law in the Philippines approve in the Office on the President on January
26,2001 was created in the response to the rapidly growing rate of garbage problems in the
country cause by improper waste disposa2015l in the Philippines was 3 rd rank as source of
water contamination in a study on February.

Waste disposal is deferent from waste management. proper waste disposal is needed to
properly execute waste management. waste management is referring to the recycling,
processing, transport, assortment, and monitoring of products. The wats products are mainly of
three types: solid, liquid, or in gas state. Solid waste commonly is known as non-biodegradable
waste (UKEssay,2015). Their study centered on the waste hierarchy or 3Rs- reduce, reuse,
recycle – and explored waste management as concept and effect of waste disposal. Without
properly executing waste disposal, difficulty in waste management also emerge. It is also
preventing that human activities and lack of discipline are the main reason of improper waste
disposal that makes problem difficult to resolve.
CHAPTER IV

DISCUSSION OF RESULT AND FINDINGS

This chapter presented the data gathered in the form of transcribed interviews following
open, selective, and theoretical coding under Glaserian coding. Furthermore, this chapter
presented the analyses of the significant findings that the researchers had discovered
throughout the study in line with the specific problems found in the study and are supported by
related studies and literature. Textual discussion and corresponding analyses are presented
which points out the significant findings found during the open selective and theoretical coding
phases of the research.

The information gathered from the responses of the respondents were recorded and
primarily transcribed. The questions that were asked during the interview mainly focused on
the profile of the respondents, type of lifestyle they are living, knowledge of respondents in
segregation and composting and its importance, observe problems in campus, were the project
implemented to resolve the issue.

1.1 What are the reasons why improper waste disposal exist?

The respondent of this study was selected senior high student of Senator Ninoy Aquino
National High School
other respondent answered that they are lack of discipline in the area of proper waste disposal.

1.2 What are the negative effect of improper waste disposal?

The negative effect of improper waste disposal in the surrounding was not looking good and
unpleasant in eye of nature.

1.3 What are the activities should do to prevent improper waste disposal?

Respondents agree to make seminar or clubs to prevent improper waste disposal.
