Deforestation

Of course, the word "forest" is familiar to us. We often read slogans, "we must
preserve forests" or "forests are the lungs of the world". However, what does forest
really mean? Most people equate the meaning of forest with the name or type of
forest, even though they have different meanings. For example, conservation forests
and protected forests have differences. Therefore, it is important for us to know in
advance what a forest is. In general, the definition of forest is a place inhabited by
various types of dense plants. Such as shrubs, grass, mushrooms, ferns, trees and
other plants in a very wide area. Forests are a very important element for human
survival. However, there is a phenomenon that makes the world's forests
increasingly depleted, namely deforestation.
The most common cause of deforestation is illegal logging. Illegal logging is carried
out by humans to use forest land for industrial or residential needs. The felled trees
are also used for the manufacture of wood-based goods. This need will increase
along with the number of people on earth that continues to grow. Apart from
humans, deforestation can also be caused by forest fires due to natural factors. For
example, lightning strikes the tip of a tree and causes a fire. Fires that occur can
spread quickly because wood and trees easily conduct fire.
Deforestation can cause global warming. As a result, there will be drought in the
area closest to the forest. Drought is one of the disasters that harm humans. Due to
drought, humans can lack water to carry out activities and plants cannot grow.
Deforestation can also bring out various kinds of disasters, such as floods and
landslides. Floods occur because of the reduced number of trees that can absorb
and hold rainwater in the ground. When rainwater flows heavily and cannot be held
by tree roots, the water will rush to low areas along with the soil. This situation
causes landslides.
