A Detailed Lesson Plan in Mathematics V

I. Objectives
At the end of the lesson the pupils should be able to;
 Derive a formula for findings the volume of rectangular prism
 Find a volume of rectangular prism
 Write solution in finding volumes of rectangular prisms correctly
 Work cooperatively to achieve best result

II. Subject Matter

A. Topic: Volume of Rectangular Prisms
B. References: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=By7sVb2IhFs
C. Materials: Rubik’s cube, worksheets, pictures of plane figures, paper,
ball pen
D. Value: Cooperation

III. Procedure
Teacher’s Activity
A. Preliminary Activity Pupil’s Activity

Prayer
Before we start, kindly lead the prayer.

Greetings “Heavenly Father…..

Good morning Class!!

“Before you take your seat please pick all the litters Amen. ”Good Morning
and pieces of papers under your chair and arrange
your chair properly.”
Teacher.”
“You may now take your seats.”

Checking of Attendance “Class secretary tell the

class

Thank you Teacher.

Who are absent today?”

“So how was your day?” (Secretary Reports)

“That’s good!”

“Have you enjoyed your day “It was great teacher Cecil e!”
bonding with your team
family?”

“That’s good to know. What “Of course Teacher! It was a lot of fun!”
activities have you done?
“We played a lot of games
teacher.

“Did you had fun?”

Yes! We had so much fun.”

“Okay that’s good, I’m glad

that you had fun doing those
activities.

B. Preparatory Activities
1. Opening Songs

2. Mental Computation Drill:

Solving For Areas of Plane
Figures

“Now class before we proceed to

our lesson, were going to have a
group activity. I’ll divide you
into to four groups.”

“I will show some pictures of a

plane figure with a given
dimensions. You will choose to
your group mates who will be the
first student will solve mentally
for the area and write your answer
on
The activity sheet that I give to you
with the proper label. Then I will
show another picture of a plane
figure with given dimensions again
and again until everyone in the
group or column has participated“.
“The groups who give with the
correct answers and label gets 2pts”
“Did you understand grade six?”

“Yes Teacher”

a. Setting the Standard in

Group Activity.

“Before we start, what are

the standards or rules to
follow in conducting a group
activity?”
-cooperate to your group mates.
-do not do anything not related to the activity.
-try your best to give an answer or an idea.
Very good! So, you -be responsible
should follow those
standards!

b. Group Activity
c. Checking of Group Activity
3. Review : Formulas in solving for the
Areas of the following: Square,
Rectangle, Parallelogram,
Trapezoid and Triangle

“I have here some picture of shapes

with a given dimensions, you will
tell to me what is the area of
each?”

“Do you understand

class?”
“Yes teacher”

Square

triangle

parallelogram

Rectangle

Trapezoid
4. Motivation

“What do you cal this object?”

“It is a Rubik’s cube”
“That’s right! It is a Rubik’s cube.
A Rubik’s cube is 3 x 3 x 3
Cube that can be manipulated so
that each face of cube will have the
same design.”

“Do you know how to play

it? How?”
“Yes teacher”

“How many small cubes does

this Rubik’s cube have?” (Pupils may give an estimate or give exact answer)

C. Development Activities

1. Presentation

“The number of small cubes that

make up Rubik’s cube is 24”

“Now class I have here

container.” -rectangular prism
“What kind of solid figure is the
container?”

“Now I will put a cube. How -4

many did I put inside the -3
rectangular container?”
-6

(The teacher fill the container with

small cubes until its upper portion)

“How can you find the number of

cubes in the container without
counting them al l?”

-By counting the number in one layer

then multiply in to other horizontal
“How many cubes in all?” layer.
“When we get the total number -There are 24 cubes
of cubes that the container has,
what have we looked for?”

“Very good!” “We looked for its volume.”

“What kind of polygon is the
base of the container?”

“What is its dimension? -square

“How many cubes fit the length? -length, width and height
The width?”
-3
-4
“Can you give the volume of the
rectangular prism by just using
the dimensions (length, width,
height? How?”
“Yes teacher, by multiplying the length, width and
“What is the formula in finding height.”
the volume of rectangular prism?
-Volume = length x width x height
“What unit of measurement will? -V= lwh
You use?”
-centimeter/cm
“When you multiply the length
andthe width, what does it
represent?” -area of base

“So if the are a of the base and

the height are given, how will
you rightthe f ormula for the
-V= area of base x height
volume of rect angular prism?”

“Class the are a of the base as -V=Bh

can bewritten B in
symbols.” “Yes Teacher”

“Did you und erstand grade six?

-V=Bh
“What are the two formulas in -V= lwh
finding the re ctangular prism?

\
2. Fixing Skills
Let us do this in pairs.

1. Find each mi ssing number?

A. l = 3.5m B. l= 9 dm C. V= 375 cu m D.V= 1232

cm3
w = 3.3m w= 8.6 dm l= 31m l = 11cm
h=4m h= 5 dm w= w= 8cm
V= V= h= 3m h=
2. Generalization
How do you solve for the volume ofrectangular prism? What is the formula used?
-by multiplying length x width x height
-V=lwh
-V=Bh

Very good!

D. Application

Draw the indicate figure and solve the problem.

1.A Sewing box is 12 cm by 9 cm by 6 cm. what is its volume? 2.How
many cubic meters of soil has to be removed for the for the foundations
of a building 52 m long and 35 m wide if the hole is to be 1.5 m deep?

IV. Evaluation
A. Complete the table. Find the volume of the following.

Length Width Height Volume

1. 9 dm 8.6 dm 5 dm
2. 1.4 m 1.5 m 1.8 m
3. 40 cm 15 m 24 cm
4. 18.5 cm 9.4 cm 15 cm
5. 5¾m 4½m 7 2/3 m

B. Read and analyze and solve.

1. The volume of a cube is 343 cm3. What is the length of the edge?
2. A wooden block below has a volume of 600cm3. Bert sawed 2 pieces of wood
out ofthe block. Find the volume of the block that was left.
V. Assignment

Complete the table.

Length 15cm 8.2 dm 5½m 2.3 m

Width 9 cm 4.7 dm 2¼m 6m
Height 7 cm 2.6 dm 4¾m 9m 2.6 m
Volume 756 m 3 17. 94 m3
