Freja McGourty (2090): The Henley College, 62441

Magazine

PRODUCT1:
My magazine front covers will feature a male and female to clearly represent
different social groups. To challenge Van Zoonen’s ideas of the media industry I will
have a black woman posing on the front cover of my magazine promoting her
successful acting career and how she lives a luxurious life, defying the traditional
and sexist role society would expect her down to have because of her gender and
her race. My female model will be photographed in a studio setting allowing her to be
the sole focus of the cover to maximise her importance.
My male model will be placed in a cinematic setting i.e. a screening room, and or
surround him with stereotypical film set props such as a clapper bored. This links
with hall’s stereotypes theory as it fits the traditional conventions and expectations of
a director. I will use a combination of typefaces, serif to create a professional
standard but will include sans-serif to create a modern look. I will also use a simple
colour palette to engage my target audience and match the colours to the
appropriate stories. This ties in with Barthes ideas of signs showing meanings. I will
adopt features such as photographs and cover lines from existing magazines and to
show my understanding of regulation (Livingston and Lunt) I will place the IPSO logo
in my magazine.

PRODUCT 2:
To reach my target audience most successfully my website will be created for mobile
phones as it is the preferred viewing method for 16-25-year-olds. To increase
website traffic and popularity I will encourage readers to share posts, hashtags and
tag ‘REEL SREEN’ in posts and stories, using the ideas of Henry Jenkins. The
website will have a modern and up to date appearance. A sans-serif typeface with a
simple lexis, making the content an easy read and meet the expectations and
engage the target audience. The navigation bar will mimic what is present on the
EMPIRE website: small, spaced/ divided, capitalised and sans-serif font. I will use a
natural and pastel colour palette to show the modern and trendy appearance of the
website and to appeal to the aesthetic of the target audience.

PRODUCT 3:
I will use the call to action on my contents page to promote my website. This will
highlight online only content such as my video interview. On the website I will offer a
subscription deal to try and build a community around my brand. To ensure that my
website and pages work on phones I will test it on various phone editions and types.
To further broaden my target audience possibilities, I will advertise my content and
magazine on different social media platforms. Specifically, TikTok and Instagram as
they are the most popular and widely used sights, have a large user numbers based
on and around my target audience ages. My video elements will be based on TikTok
as it is the most popular social media platform for 16-25-year-olds. It also allows
audience interaction with comments and likes, allowing Henry Jenkis theory to be
proven.
