(5) GOALS/OBJECTIVES:
The activity has the following objectives:
a. To promote reading and literacy among learners;
b. To develop social awareness, self-esteem, and friendship through various forms of literature;
c. To provide an opportunity for learners to showcase and enhance their skills and talents through reading,
writing, speaking, listening, and viewing.
(6) IMPLEMENTING UNIT/OFFICE: English Department of San Jose Pili National High School
(7) OVERVIEW/RATIONALE:
In celebration of the National Book and Reading Month and in line with the Department of Education’s
drive in strengthening the basic skills in reading, the San Jose Pili National High School conducts this event every
November. The English teachers believe that by providing a variety of materials, conducting reading and writing
contests, and presenting different forms of arts will surely develop and enhance the reading skills and understanding
of the English Language of the students.
In view of this, several activities are prepared that will enrich students’ skills in reading, writing,
listening, speaking, and viewing using the language and maximize their full potential as productive, creative, and
well-rounded learners of our institution.
The following events to be contested are Echo Poetry, Jazz Chant, Choral Reading, Spelling, Essay
Writing, Poster making, Slogan Making, Mr. and Ms. Communication Arts Cosplay Contest. The events will be
conducted onsite and online. The participants must submit their entries online following the scheduled dates of each
event and will be open to all JHS and SHS students.

IMPLEMENTATION STAGE
The Guidelines and Criteria for each event will be posted or uploaded in the San Jose Pili National High
School page and in the English Department page for information and details. Each event will focus on the theme
“Dreaming With Eyes Open.” Participants should submit entries online on the English department page and results
will be posted as well in the page.

(9) BENEFICIARIES:
This project will focus and will be open to students who wants to participate on the various contests prepared
by their respective JHS and SHS English teachers. This program is geared up to focus on individuals who have the
desire and perseverance to win the battle against illiteracy, that by this event they can go beyond borders.

Guidelines:
1. The contest shall be divided in two (2) categories; Grade 7-9 and Grade 10-12
2. Each category will be competing respectively.
3. Each grade level will have 2-3 contestants.
4. Entry/Piece should be based on the theme.
5. Entry/Piece will be written/encoded in a short size bond paper
6. Entry is in free verse.
7. Entry/Piece will be submitted or uploaded in the English Department Page on November 21-
25, 2022
8. Top 3 entry will be awarded.
ESSAY WRITING
Guidelines:
1. The contest shall be divided in two (2) categories; Grade 7-9 and Grade 10-12
2. Each category will be competing respectively.
3. Each grade level will have 2-3 contestants.
4. Entry/Piece should be based on the theme.
5. Entry/Piece will be written/encoded in a short size bond paper
6. Entry/Piece will be submitted or uploaded in the English Department Page on November 21-
25, 2022
7. Top 3 entry will be awarded.
STORY TELLING
Guidelines:
1. The contest shall be divided in two (2) categories; Grade 7-9 and Grade 10-12
2. Each category will be competing respectively.
3. Each grade level will have one (1) contestant.
4. Entry/Piece is of the contestant choice.
5. Entry/Piece will be performed during the event.
6. Top 3 entry will be awarded.
Performance (Characters used excellent volume and clarity of voice and proper acting) – 50%
Delivery and Style – 30%
Dialogue – 20%
TOTAL – 100%
ECHO POETRY
Guidelines:
1. The contest shall be divided in two (2) categories; Grade 7-9 and Grade 10-12
2. Each category will be competing respectively.
3. Each grade level will have one (1) contestant.
4. Entry/Piece is of the contestant choice.
5. Entry/Piece will be performed during the event.
6. Top 3 entry will be awarded.
JAZZ CHANT
Guidelines:
1. The contest shall be divided in two (2) categories; Grade 7-9 and Grade 10-12 who will be
competing respectively.
2. Each grade level shall have one (1) entry.
3. Entry shall be in Group of six (6) members/students.
4. Piece can be with instruments.
5. Entry/Piece should be based on the theme.
6. The performance will be uploaded in the English Department Page on November 21-25, 2022
7. Top 3 entry will be awarded.
Criteria for Judging
Guidelines:
1. The contest shall be divided in two (2) categories; Grade 7-9 and Grade 10-12
2. Each category will be competing respectively.
3. Each grade level will have at least one (1) contestant.
4. Cosplay will focus on Anime or cartoon characters.
5. Contestants will perform on stage during the event.
6. Performances will be uploaded in the English Department Page on the first week of
December.
7. Top 3 Best Cosplay will be awarded.

Resemblance – 30%
Craftmanship – 20%
Audience Impact – 10%
TOTAL – 100%
