The Nativity of Lord

One of the things we do at St. Anthony Shrine is that we listen to stories – in

confession, spiritual direction, counseling, and informally when we meet people
spontaneously. Everyone’s story is unique. By being attentive to a person’s story, we
show that we care about that person. We care about the details, and we care about the
emotions that go along with them. Both the telling of and the listening to a personal
story can be quite life-giving. We show one another the face of God when we express
our vulnerabilities, our fears, and our concerns in the midst of a detailed story.
A key moment in the story of God’s love for humanity is the story of Christmas. God
loved us so much that he was willing to come into the world as a vulnerable baby.
Our collective listening to this remarkable turn in the story of salvation evokes a
variety of emotions: hope, joy, wonder, excitement, affection.
It is out of that whirlwind of Christmas emotions that we at St. Anthony Shrine
express our affection and prayers for you. May we all be enriched by our mutual
friendship and genuine concern for one another. May the central story of our lives
always be the birth, life, death and resurrection of Jesus. May the birth of the Christ
Child be our continual source of inspiration throughout the year.
The Arch Street Band continues to receive accolades from the congregation here on
Arch Street. They are especially loved by those who understand the subtleties of
good professional music. We are so fortunate to have them with us. Special thanks
to their leader, Mark Emery, for consistently and skillfully articulating the role of
music in the larger mission of the Shrine. We are grateful to Mark and everyone who
contributes to our worship music.
During the weekend of December 31 to January 1, we will have the regular weekend
schedule. During two Mondays in January, the 2nd and the 16th, we will have a
special schedule with only one Mass each day, at 12:05pm.
Thank you for your participation with the Shrine and its mission. Merry Christmas!

YEAR END GIVING
We are profoundly grateful to each of you who supported our mission during this calendar year. Your
philanthropic gifts are a beacon of hope to those who thirst for compassion, charity, friendship, or an overall
sense of welcome. Thank you for making a difference.

Have you made your gift yet to support our mission? Many are preparing for year-end giving. Consider a gift
of appreciated stock, or perhaps from your Donor Advised Fund, or if you are 70 ½, you can make a gift of up
to $100,000 via your IRA.
As the end of the year approaches, we invite you to consider making a tax-deductible gift to the Shrine. There
are a number of ways to make this gift.

1. Cash/check - may be given in person or via the U.S mail. Please note that the gift must be postmarked
by December 31 to be counted for a 2022 tax deduction.

Please make checks payable to: St. Anthony Shrine

Mail to: St. Anthony Shrine

2. Credit card – Make a gift on line – www.stanthontshrine.org with a credit card.

Once on our website, simply click the GIVE button located at the top right hand
corner of our home page. Kiosks in the lobby are another option for a credit card
gift. Perhaps the easiest way to make a credit card gift is to use our QR code here.

3. Donor Advised Fund

4. Gifts of appreciated stock – contact Maryanne Rooney-Hegan at 617-778-1645.

5. IRA Charitable Rollover – If you or someone you know is 70 ½ or older and has a traditional Individual
Retirement Account (IRA), you can use your required minimum distribution to support the Shrine
through a Charitable Rollover gift. You may transfer up to $100,000 from an IRA account to one of
more charities. Contact the administrator of your plan, direct them to send your distribution as a
charitable roll over, and they will send it directly to the Shrine. Please notify Maryanne Rooney-Hegan
at 617-778-1645 of your intent.

6. Matching Gifts – A corporate matching gift is a tremendous way to increase your personal gift to the
Shrine. We encourage you to take advantage of your employer’s matching gift program.
