I PRESENTATION
I.1General
This document is a partial report. It reports on the results of the test campaign carried
out on the site. It constitutes, with its appendices, an inseparable whole and was
published in (18) pages.
I.2Project
The project, called Transgabonaise, consists of carrying out development, widening and
asphalting work on National Road 1 (RN1).
I. 3Assignment
The Design office CETRA GABON aims to conduct a mission according to the
pointsbelow:
-Execute core drilling from 0 to 20 meters deep according to the requirements of the
Customer's Specifications;
- Describe the different soil layers encountered;
-Study the geotechnical characteristics of the soils sampled at indicated depths
(simple and mechanical identification tests of the soils;
-Carry out analyzes of the SPT survey points in accordance with the provisions of the
Specifications;
- Determine soil bearing capacity factors from SPT tests.
I.4Documents provided
A document relating to the location of the survey points was sent to CETRA GABON. For
this study, seven (07) survey points were carried out (see Table 1 below).

laboratory in accordance with the Customer's request. Also, soil identification and mechanical
tests were carried out at depths predefined by the Client.
Nota Bene :
- The depths obtained are defined in relation to the level of the platform on the
date of the drilling.
- The thicknesses that have been recorded are valid at the boreholes and are
likely to undergo variations in the same cross section or a few meters further.
IV RECOGNITION RESULTS
Forty-one (41) core drillings are provided for in the Customer's clauses. However, this
report being partial, highlights the first seven (07) surveys carried out on site and the
results of laboratory tests.
This part of the investigation will allow us to have information on the lithology of the soils
sampled at each survey point.
The soil stratigraphy from the seven (07) core drillings is presented below:
PK 38+780
Observation of the strata of the carrots shows that we can split them into two groups:
The SPT surveys were carried out at fixed depths contained in the Specifications. Also, the
following table and photos illustrate the performance of the SPT test.

According to the results in our possession, Table 3 shows that the soils encountered at
the survey points studied are essentially of two (2) families between 0 and 7 meters:
- Fine soils of low plastic silt, loess, alluvial silts, low polluted fine sands, low plastic
arenas of sub-class A2;
- Fine soils of the clay and marl clay types, very plastic silts of sub-class A3.
Nota Bene :The classification of materials in the table was carried out according to
standard NF P 11 300 and the GTR.
The state parameters make it possible to characterize the soils encountered in the very
humid section (th). It is important to specify that in the case of this study, the samples
were taken during the rainy season.
Nature parameters reveal a Dmax not exceeding 16 mm overall.
Subclass A3 soils (clays and marly clays, very plastic silt) give plasticity indices ranging
from 27 to 35, characterizing very clayey soils. While subclass A2 soils are not very plastic
(plasticity indices varying between 22 and 24).
A single mechanical shear test was performed. Table 4 below gives the results
obtained.

CONCLUSION
As part of the construction works of the National Road 1 counting for the Transgabonaise
project, the company AFCONS INFRASTRUCTURE LIMITED entrusted to Design office
CETRA GABON carrying out geotechnical investigations for the survey and study of
materials on the linear PK24 to PK40.
A rocky horizon is observed between 4 meters and 7 meters for the following kilometer
points:PK39+940 – PK40+040 – PK40+100.
-preliminary geotechnical site study missions (G11), pre-project geotechnical study (G12), project geotechnical study (G2),
execution geotechnical study and monitoring (G3), geotechnical execution supervision (G4) are carried out in the
following order;
-a mission entrusted to our company may contain only part of the services described in the corresponding standard
mission;
-the execution of geotechnical investigations engages our company only on the conformity of the works carried out with
those contractually ordered and the accuracy of the results that it provides;
-any geotechnical engineering mission only engages our company on its duty to advise within the strict framework, on
the one hand, of the objectives explicitly defined in our technical proposal on the basis of which the order and its
possible amendments were established, on the other hand, the client's project described by the graphic documents or
plans cited in the report;
-any mission of preliminary geotechnical site study, pre-project geotechnical study or geotechnical diagnosis excludes
any commitment of our company on the quantities, costs and deadlines for execution of future geotechnical works;
-a G2 project geotechnical study mission commits our company as a technical assistant to the project management
within the limits of the contract setting the scope of the mission and the part(s) of the work( s) concerned.
Our company cannot be held liable outside the framework of the geotechnical mission covered by the report. In
particular, any modification made to the project or its environment requires the updating of the geotechnical report as
part of a new assignment.
2. Recommendations
It is specified that the geotechnical study is based on an investigation of the ground, the mesh of which does not make it
possible to identify all the hazards that are always possible in the natural environment. Indeed, heterogeneities, natural
or man-made, discontinuities and uncertainties of execution may appear given the ratio between the volume sampled or
tested and the volume requested by the structure, and this all the more that these possible singularities can be limited in
extension. The new geotechnical elements highlighted during the execution, which may have an influence on the
conclusions of the report, must immediately be reported to the geotechnician in charge of the geotechnical study and
monitoring of execution (G3 mission) so that he can analyze them. the consequences on the conditions of
If a particular evolutionary character has been brought to light (in particular landslide, erosion, dissolution, evolving
embankments, peat, etc.), the application of the report's recommendations requires validation at each subsequent stage
of the design or execution. Indeed, such an evolutionary nature can call into question these recommendations, especially
if a significant period of time elapses before their implementation.
3. Mission report
The geotechnical report constitutes the report of the geotechnical engineering mission defined by the order under which
it was drawn up and whose references are given at the top. In the absence of specific contractual clauses, the submission
of the geotechnical report sets the end of the mission.
A geotechnical report and all its identified annexes constitute an inseparable whole. The two reference copies are the
two originals kept: one by the customer and the second by our company. In this context, any other interpretation that
could be made of a communication or partial reproduction cannot engage the responsibility of our company. In
particular, the use, even partial, of these results and conclusions by another contracting authority or by another builder
or for a structure other than that which is the subject of the mission entrusted may in no case engage the responsibility
of our company and may entail lawsuits.
