II. Practice
Topic question: Some students prefer to take a gap year between high school and university, to work
or to travel. Do the advantages of this outweigh the disadvantages?
Exercise 5: Improve the following paragraph by using better vocabulary.
Taking a gap year before starting university can be a good idea. It gives students a chance to travel and learn
about different cultures, which can be fun and help them learn new skills. For example, they might need to
learn a new language or learn how to live on their own. Also, it can be hard to decide what job to do after
school, so taking some time to explore different career options can be helpful. This is better than going straight
to university because students can focus on their studies without any distractions.
