Data Collection

In this research, data collection is primarily conducted through the use of a survey
questionnaire. The questionnaire, presented in Appendix B, consists of multiple-choice and
open-ended questions that aim to gather information about the participants' experience with
Quillbot, its impact on their writing skills, and their perceptions of its usefulness. The
questionnaire covers various aspects such as the frequency of Quillbot usage, its impact on
sentence correction, critical thinking, and confidence in writing. It also explores how Quillbot
has influenced the participants' writing process, their ability to identify weaknesses, and their
overall academic success.

Instrument

The instrument used in this research is the survey questionnaire itself. The questionnaire is
designed to capture both quantitative and qualitative data, allowing the researchers to obtain a
comprehensive understanding of the participants' experiences and perspectives. The survey
includes rating scales to measure the participants' agreement or disagreement with certain
statements related to Quillbot usage and its impact on their writing skills. Additionally, open-
ended questions provide an opportunity for the participants to provide more detailed
explanations and insights regarding their experiences with Quillbot.

The researchers employ purposive sampling to select the participants for the study. The
selection criteria involve choosing grade 10 students from Holy Trinity Academy who have
experience using Quillbot. This approach ensures that the collected data aligns with the
research objectives and focuses specifically on the impact of Quillbot on the academic
performance of the selected grade 10 students. The researchers acknowledge the possibility of
observation bias and take steps to address it by excluding students who have not used Quillbot,
as their data would not contribute to the intended research outcomes.

The data collection process in this research involves administering the survey questionnaire
to the selected grade 10 students and gathering their responses to explore the impact of
Quillbot on their writing skills and identify effective strategies for developing those skills beyond
relying on Quillbot. The survey instrument enables the researchers to collect both quantitative
and qualitative data, providing valuable insights into the participants' experiences and
perceptions related to Quillbot.
