A. Preliminary Activity
1. Review/drill:
Direction: Fill in the blanks the signal words to complete the directions given. Do this on a separate
answer sheet.
I went to the mall and bought a lotion for insect bites. This is how I interpreted the procedure. 1.

Most often, we consult a doctor when we are sick. The doctor usually gives a note that tells what
medicine we are going to take. What do you call this note?
It is called prescription. It contains the name of the medicine, the dosage when to take the medicine.
Acute Bronchitis
A. Bricanyl Expectant
1/2 tsp. 3x a day for 1 week.
B. Bendryl Expectorant
2 tsp. every 4 hours.
Comprehension check:
1) What medicine was prescribed to the child?

Directions tell someone how to do something or in which the order to do something. It serves as a
guide for the readers or listeners to achieve his goal successfully. Reading all the directions before
doing something is highly recommended. Directions may be given when doing something, how to
find places, how to use objects or things, and how to make simple things.
Signal words are used in giving directions. This gives the reader or listener the things to be done
orderly. Some of the frequent signal words used in giving directions are first, then, and finally. These
are the words that signal what the next step to follow is. These are also called connectors or sequence
words.
3. Guided Practice:
Directions: Read the directions carefully. Then do it correctly.
1) First, write your name, grade and section at the top of your paper.
2) Next, think of what you want to become when you grow up.
3) Then, write it on your paper.

4) After that, write the steps that you will do to achieve your ambition.
5) Lastly, let your seatmate check your work
4. Generalization:
1) What is direction?

5. Application
Direction: Are you familiar with origami? That is creating images using paper folding. You need a
piece of colored paper, pair of scissors, and a black pentel pen. Follow the step-by-step activity to
create your own puppy origami. After finishing it, take a picture of your output and send it to your
teacher.
IV. Evaluation:
Direction: Write T if the statement is true and F if it is false. Write your answer in a separate sheet.
1) Signal words are used to tell the sequence of the steps to follow.
2) There is no need to read the directions in baking a cake for the first time.
3) First, next, then, and finally are examples of signal words.
4) Read all the directions before answering or doing something.
5) Understanding the directions before doing a task is not important.
