CALCULATING POWER WITH VOLTAGE & CURRENT

Power describes how voltage and current combine to produce an amount of work done per unit
of time and is calculated via the formula in the box. The unit for power is the "watt" which is
equivalent to joules/second.

P = V x I

Power = Voltage x current

(watts) = (volts) x (amperes)

Provide the answers to the questions below.

1. If a 9-volt battery produces a current of 0.5 amps, what is the power produced?

Answer:

2. If a 120-watt light bulb operates from current of 1.5 amperes, what is the voltage?

Answer:

3. If a 500-watt microwave oven uses a potential difference of 110 volts, what is the current
being that must be used?

Answer:

4. If a 120 volt light bulb uses 0.75 amperes, how much power is used by the bulb?

Answer:

5. What voltage would be required to run a 600-watt motor with a current of 400 amperes?
