B. ELICIT Yesterday, we have talked about the concepts in the periodic table. Those are the families, groups,
periods, and the items that contains the elements found inside your school campus.
Guide questions:
1. What are the families in the periodic table?
2. What are the most common elements found and can be seen by our naked eyes?
3. Why is it important in human lives?

C. ENGAGE Activity 1: Touch me yes, touch me no!

The teacher will prepare some different metals that can be found inside the house.

Materials: Copper wire, coins, spoon, silver ring, silver bracelet, gold necklace, nails, scissors,
bronze magnetic strap, stainless steel strap
Instructions: The students will observe, touch, and hold the surface of the metals one by one and
will answer the guide questions based on their observations.
Guide Questions:
1. How was it feel? Is it soft, hard, smooth, rough?
2. How can you describe its weight? Is it heavy or lightweight?
3. What can you say about its shape?
4. What can you say about its surface?
5. Why does nails and coins are heavier than other materials?

D. EXPLORE Activity 2: Observing the Physical Properties of Metals

Objective: To compare and contrast the physical properties of different metals.

Materials: Copper wire, coins, spoon, silver ring, silver bracelet, gold necklace, nails, scissors,
bronze magnetic strap, stainless steel strap
Procedure:
 Measure and record the dimensions of each metal piece assigned to your group including
its length, width, and thickness.
 Observe its surface including the color, the shape, and its texture.
 Complete the table below by providing the right information

Table 1: Data gathered from observations on metals

2.)

Guide Questions:
1. What are the chemical properties of metals that can be observed?
2. How did you determine the texture or surface of a metal sample?
3. What are some visual cues that can indicate the presence of a metal?
4. How did you determine the shape and size of a metal sample?
5. What are some common industrial applications of metals, and how are they used?
6. How are metals used in the transportation industry?

E. EXPLAIN Guide Questions:

Physical Properties
1. What is metallic luster and why do metals have it?
2. What are the mechanical properties of metals such as malleability, ductility, and
elasticity?
3. How does the crystal structure of metals relate to their physical properties/
4. What are the thermal properties of metals, such as thermal conductivity and melting
point?
5. What are the electrical properties of metals, such as electrical conductivity and resistivity?

Chemical Properties:
1. What is the reactivity of metals, and how does it affect their chemical properties?
2. What is the corrosion of metals and how can it be prevented?
3. What are the common chemical properties of metals, and how do they differ from
nonmetals?

Applications:
1. What are some common applications of the physical properties of metals in industry?
2. How do the physical properties of metals influence their use in construction?
3. What are some examples of metals used for their magnetic properties in electronic
devices?

F. Activity 3: Metals in Everyday Life

ELABORATE Objective: The objective of this activity is to help students understand the various applications of
metals in everyday life and how they impact our daily routines.

Materials: 1 whole short bond paper, pencil, ruler, coloring materials

Instructions: Draw the examples of metals that can be found inside the school that has a
significant contribution in the structure of school buildings. Identify the metal and its purpose in
using that kind of metal.

Criteria:
 Accuracy and detail of the drawing – 10 points
 Identification of the metal and its purpose in the school – 5 points
 Neatness and presentation – 3 points
 Creativity and originality – 2 points

Scoring rubrics:
 18-20 points: The drawing is highly accurate and detailed, clearly identifies the metal and
its purpose in the school, is neatly presented, and shows creativity and originality.
 15-17 points: The drawing is mostly accurate and detailed, identifies the metal and its
purpose in the school, is neatly presented, and shows some creativity and originality.
 12-14 points: The drawing is somewhat accurate and detailed, identifies the metal and its
purpose in the school, is mostly neat, and shows some creativity and originality.
 9-11 points: The drawing is minimally accurate and detailed, identifies the metal and its
purpose in the school, is somewhat neat and shows little creativity and originality.
 8 points below: The drawing is inaccurate and lacking in detail, identifies the metal and
its purpose in the school, is messy or poorly presented, and shows little creativity or
originality.

G. True or False: Write TRUE if the statement is correct and write FALSE if the statement is wrong.
EVALUATE 1. Malleability is the ability of a metal to be shaped or formed by hammering or rolling
without cracking or breaking. TRUE
2. Thermal conductivity is the ability of metals to conduct electricity. FALSE
3. When metals react with oxygen, they undergo oxidation and form metal oxides. TRUE
4. Metals such as stainless steel and titanium have high resistance to corrosion. TRUE
5. Metals such as iron, nickel, and cobalt are magnetic and are used in the production of
magnets and magnetic storage media. TRUE
